Stiles had been outside when he messaged Scott. He couldn’t hold it in anymore. He needed somebody to talk to and Scott was that someone. So, the second after he sent the last message to Scott over the network, he made his way inside and then to Scott’s room. Once inside he shut the door and looked at Scott for a moment before he started pace around the room. There were so many different emotions mixed up inside of him, he was pretty sure it was radiating off of him. “I fucked up. Badly,” he finally said with a glance over at Scott. * Scott wasn’t sure what had happened. He’d spent a lot of time with Artemis, getting her calm and reassuring her. He’d come home, cleaned up then went to bed. Alone. He’d slept but had fitful dreams as if sensing something was coming. Something he wasn’t going to like dealing with. He got the panicked text from Stiles hours later and recalled those dreams. Ugh. While waiting for Stiles he got dressed. When his best friend came in he picked up on Stiles’ agitation easily. Geez! What could have happened in the short time since they’d been back?! “Slow down,” he said as he got up off his bed to intercept Stiles’ pacing. “What happened?” * Stiles stopped pacing since Scott got in his way. He just looked up at and stared for a moment before he finally spoke again. “Lydia. Lydia is what happened. And your damn videos that you kept sending me before you left.” He paused for a moment before talking again. “She stole my phone. Looked at what you had sent me…” Could he go on? Just thinking about it again was making him wish he could go back and fix what happened. It shouldn’t have happened. They let it happen. * Scott had his hands on Stiles’ arms with his brows lifted in mounting concern. What did Lydia and the videos and photos he’d been teasing Stiles with have….oh. Oh! Oh, crap! Scott took in a deep breath. That was actually a long time in coming, in his opinion. Stiles had had a huge crush on her since grade school. But the timing couldn’t be worse! “Come on,” he said as he put an arm around Stiles’ shoulder then guided him toward the bed. “Calm down and...no, don’t tell me I think I can figure it out. Tell me why exactly you’re freaking out.” * Well, thank god he didn’t have to actually explain any further since Scott was smart enough to put the pieces together. Stiles let Scott guide him over to the bed and then sat down. “Are you serious?” It seemed like a stupid question to ask. Why was he freaking out? It should be clear why he freaking out. “Because I was with Lydia. I’m going to have to tell Cora. She’s going to kill me. And if she doesn’t, my crazy evil clone just might!” He was up again, way too antsy and panicky and, “Oh my god I fucked up. I couldn’t stop myself, though,” he turned to look at Scott. “It was like…like a whole different side of me took over.” * Scott had a feeling he knew the answer, but he wanted to hear it from Stiles. Sometimes he wasn’t on the same page as his best friend. When his assumptions were confirmed he sighed. Then he got up when Stiles did. Hearing what had happened he knew why Stiles couldn’t stop. “Hey. Listen to me,” he said with a hint of Alpha in his voice. “That was the wolf. Consider it your Id on steroids.” And damn Lydia anyway! But while he was at it he could damn himself. * Stiles stopped fidgeting for a moment and just looked at Scott. “I don’t like it. I don’t like that I can lose control like that. I – I hate this. I never wanted to be like this.” He knew it wasn’t all his fault. It takes two, but he could have tried to stop it. He never did. That evil little wolfy side wanted it and got it. “Is it always like that?” He had to know especially if he was going to have to live with it. “I can’t be alone with her anymore.” * Scott’s mind went back to the supermoon and he felt like slapping himself in the head. “No, it’s not always like that. You get used to it. Learn how to control.” Did he want to compare this to puberty? Well, yeah because it was applicable, but that would make this situation even more awkward then it was. “Let’s worry about how this is going to shake out before you go on a Lydia Martin fast, ok?” Scott smiled a little for that as he caught Stiles’ hand. “Cora should be able to understand what happened. Pretty sure she’s been around bitten people before.” * “Like everything else.” It felt like he was getting nowhere with controlling anything. He was seriously starting to wonder how long it would take before he could be himself again. “You think I’m going overboard with that?” he didn’t think so at the moment. “I should blame you for what happened. You were teasing me before you left and then she saw and she got all turned on…” he trailed off because he did not want to start thinking about what happened. He looked down at their hand and then looked back up again. “Yeah, but I’m pretty sure she wasn’t dating any of those people. Why would she stay calm about this? You saw how pissed she was that we got sent away on vacation. This is worse than getting sent away and coming back.” * If Cora was going to get pissed at anyone Scott laid money on Lydia. She’d made the move on Stiles from the sounds of it. Sure, Stiles should have said no, and Lydia most likely didn’t realize she’d been poking the bear...er, wolf...but it happened. Now they’d have to deal with it. Scott didn’t blame Stiles or Lydia, so he wouldn’t let Cora do that either. “I think this is a bit different from us disappearing then coming back,” Scott offered. “I wouldn’t say it’s worse. Just different.” * “I know. But my point was look at how easily she got mad at us even though we had no control over it.” He seriously wished that he could think the way Scott was thinking right now, but his mind wasn’t letting him do that. His mind was playing out every bad reaction to what he needed to tell Cora. “I’m going to go crazy until she comes home.” It was all just going to keep replaying over and over in his head. What had happened between himself and Lydia and Cora was going to react to him telling her. “I can’t believe I let this happen…” The more he spoke and thought about it all the harder he started to hold onto Scott’s hand without realizing he was doing it. * “Hey!” Stiles was getting to that anxiety attack stage. Scott had seen it before. He needed to stop it before it got real bad. “Stop, ok? You’re digging your grave before you’re even in the noose.” Scott put his arms around Stiles then backed up to the bed where he then got them both in a more comfortable position. “Calm down. We’ll deal with whatever happens together. Ok?” * “What?” Stiles blinked at Scott. “Sorry. I just…I…” He didn’t really know what to say. He was going into panic mode. He knew it. It had started to feel like the walls were closing in on him until Scott shouted at him to get his attention back. He let Scott lead him back down onto the bed. He kind of just went along with whatever Scott was doing. “Yeah,” he said with a nod of his head, “Okay.” Easier said than done. But he was going to try. “Distract me.” * “Distract you,” Scott said. Well. He knew how he normally would distract Stiles, but he thought that would be entirely inappropriate in this situation. “Ok. Um…” What he was about to say might never be forgiven. Scott could be able to sign his death warrant, but it was necessary. Artemis would just have to never learn about this. “Artemis cried.” * “Yes, distract me or I’m going to keep thinking about it all and freak out more.” So, yeah, he needed a distraction. Something else to focus his mind on. “Oh? About what?” Not that he actually cared about that evil girl, but his curiosity always won out even if he didn’t want to hear about her. * “That I’d disappeared,” Scott said. He was still a little baffled by that. Artemis had always been so independent that he had never thought she’d be that upset if he went back. “She’d gotten so angry,” and had apparently made a dumb choice, “then we were back. Where Cora got pissed Artemis got shaken.” * “Okay…” Stiles really didn’t know what to say about that. Maybe it was an act. Just something else to pull Scott in. Well, Stiles wasn’t falling for it. He still didn’t trust her and she never gave him any reason to do so. “Girls might as well be aliens. Because they are weird and I will never understand them.” * As they talked, Scott slowly moved them so he had his back against the wall with Stiles leaning back against him, and his arms around his best friend. Scott knew Stiles would never accept or like Artemis, but that wasn’t the point of this conversation. “I think that’s the grand design,” Scott mused. “They probably don’t understand us either.” * Cuddling up with Scott and not thinking too much was great. He could do this forever, to be honest. Especially if it meant he didn’t have to deal with what was going to happen later on when Cora came home. “Maybe not, but I think they’re harder to understand.” He was convinced of it. “I wish we were still on vacation.” * Things did seem simpler when it was just the two of them. It always had, really. From the time they were kids it all seemed to flow well as long as they were together. Scott never questioned it. He just enjoyed it. “Yeah,” he agreed then kissed Stiles’ hair. “Me too.” |
