Things were going well, she was joking, she was laughing. Right up until the last thing she said. The tone shifted and became more serious again and her posture and body language became more defensive. At least it seemed that way. What she said last however, melted the smile from his face. It was as if both his hearts suddenly shattered.
"Wouldn't change it?" he asked her in utter disbelief. "It's not that I wouldn't, I couldn't... You know how this works, Rose. There are points in time that no matter how much I want, I can't change. There are things I have to live with for the rest of my entire life, through every regeneration that I cannot change, even with all of time and space in the soles of my feet, at my heels!"
He was becoming more animated with his movements when he talked, his face trying to hide his emotions but failing. He was upset, he was angry, he was filled with regret and sorrow for each and every life he had ruined. Rose would be one of the heaviest memories he carried with him. Something he would never forgive himself for.
"So yes,it does matter! Of course it matters! Do you think I just stopped caring? Did you?" he asked. He wanted to get out of this conversation badly but he was the one who had started it. It was his own fault.
