Scanlan’s performance had started with music. He had brought along a few musicians with him from a local Everdale troupe to round out the group, choosing pieces that were in the spirit of fun and cheeriness. There were even a few pop songs thrown in that he had picked up from traveling to the other regions. A little something for everyone.
But it wasn’t just music Scanlan performed. Weaved into particular pieces were illusions that created a story throughout the show. He danced with an ethereal-looking ghost once, stepped onto a purple floating hand that acted as rising platform, and magicked the appearance of everyone on stage to resemble knights and beasts for a song about Everdale’s sword swinging yokels. It was a very tongue-in-cheek performance, one intended to bring laughter to even the most proper and composed citizens.
Overall, the entire show was one part ridiculous, two parts thoroughly entertaining. And that description suited Scanlan just fine.
By the time it was over, he had bowed and thanked those who had stayed to listen. The crowd had started to wander to other activities, but Scanlan stayed with the troupe as they gathered their instruments. He would get lost in the crowd again soon, one small gnome the size of a child among humans. That was alright. He really did enjoy the performance high while it lasted.
