Despite the sensory overload of the small tavern Will's watchful attention was captured instantly by the approach of the other boy. One look at the windswept hair and distinctly wizardly robe assured him that he had found who he was searching for even before the pleasant greeting. Attentive curiosity was apparent on his features and a small, shy smile flirted with the corners of his mouth at the amicable manner with which Arcturus spoke. “That’s me. Nice to formally meet you.” He replied in a characteristically soft voice.
One might miss the tiny jolt of startlement when he was unexpectedly touched. In Will's experience the only contact that didn't come from loved ones was from bullies and doctors (which were one and the same really) so his body was not prepared. However, he quickly relaxed and did not pull away from the companionable hold. His muscles didn't soften entirely but the corners of his mouth spread into a sincere smile. Though it was difficult to supersede the instinctive social anxiety Will kept inside himself he was far too soft-hearted to respond negatively to such a welcome. He had always been kind to a fault and really did want to be open and genuine with others. It was merely difficult after so much harsh experience.
As they approached the table Arcturus had claimed Will nodded eagerly at that final question. "Yeah, of course. This is great.” And it was. The aged wood of the table was pulpy beneath his sensitive fingers as he reached to touch its surface. Curiosity flickered brightly at the sight of the broomstick and he tipped his head to the side a little as he studied its polished lines. It didn't look at all the sort of object to sit comfortably on. Was some sort of levitation involved?
But it was rude to keep staring at other things when he had a companion at his side. Bright eyes turned back to Arcturus with a pleased glint in them. “Thank you for inviting me. I kind of look like an idiot here but I'm happy to get the chance to visit. This place is something out of my dreams.” It was inspiring to think that others lived in such environments 24/7. Surely this was plain and familiar to them but to him even the earthy perfume of the place was exciting. His reputation in Hawkins was well-earned--- what a nerd Will was. He fervently hoped his perpetual fascination didn't offend the other boy. 'Tone it down, Byers, you look silly.'
