Lucas wasn't sure when he'd stopped seeing Rosie as a friend of his sister's and started seeing her as Rosie. He'd known her forever and his mom marrying them into the Taylor family only solidified that connection. Rosie was nearly as constant a presence in the Taylor household as Roxy was. Somewhere along the way, though, Luke had started to appreciate Rosie for the person she was instead of just seeing her as a friend of the family. She was more than just a friend of Layla and Ella's.
It had been a spontaneous move, asking her out. Lucas had definitely meant for it to be a date even if he hadn't actually spelled that out in his invitation. He wasn't bold enough to come right out and admit he liked her in that way. The way he saw it, he was happy to hang out with her either way. Rosie was a great girl. She was sweet and smart and funny. Even if she didn't like him in the same way, he was sure they'd have a good time.
Seeing her now, though, he really hoped that wasn't the case. Luke took in her appearance quietly, realizing that he'd been lying to himself if he thought it would be okay to just have a friendly outing. "You look amazing," he breathing, barely aware he'd spoken out loud. He held out his arm to her before guiding her toward his car. The thing was pretty beat up and it was in the shop more often than not. It was almost embarrassing to take a girl out in it, but it was all he had.
When they reached the car, he opened the door for her, waiting until she was settled inside before he closed it and made his way around to the other side to slide into his own seat.
