Chris couldn't help but smile at the sound of Cassie hitting his brother. It was just the normalness of it all in this situation striking him as funny somehow.
But the humor was wiped away by Cassie's words. 8 months It had been going on for almost 8 months and neither of them had taken a minute to tell him that they were...whatever they were. It was like he'd been punched in the gut, they hadn't trusted him to handle the fact that they were involved.
"Yeah you should have. I know I kept things a secret but it wasn't anything like...this. Like the fact that the two of you were together," he said, turning to face them both for the first time. "And I didn't keep it a secret for 8 months," he said, his earlier calm replaced by a hurt that he couldn't really explain.
"And anyway you'd told me would have been better than walking in on it," he said, looking at Charles for a second before turning and walking towards his room. "I'm going to bed," he called over his shoulder. "I have an early workout tomorrow so just hold it down okay?" he added, trying to sound normal but falling short even to his own ears.
