Josh squeezed her hand back, smiling softly. His thumb making circles over her skin as he guided her off the trolley and down the street. "You're about to find my secret out in just a minute." They walked past old buildings like walking back in time.
"One of my mom's boyfriends took us out here once and I used to bring my siblings out here a couple of times a year to play. I like it's... charming." He said looking around at the old buildings as they walked down the street towards the fire house museum. He came by yesterday and left a couple of blankets with them. The old retired firemen who ran the place thought he was really smooth and said they'd make sure the water tank was full. Behind the station was an old water truck with real working hoses. His sisters loved playing there in the summer squirting each other and screaming for hours. It was kind of cold for that today, but he hoped that Meghan would have a sense of humor and would play with him. A sort of test. The blankets were to keep them warm before they left, and he'd have an excuse to cuddle on the trolley. And the best part were the flannel sweats he had in the back of his trunk if she wanted to step into a bathroom and change to something warm and dry. Plus then she'd have something of his as an excuse to meet again, and it would smell like her.
The thoughts flooded his mind and made him smile as what he hoped would be his brilliant plan unfolded. And with her holding his hand he felt like he could soar. Definitely should kiss her, he thought.
"It's a cool little town. The surprise is just ahead," he pointed to the old fire house. "They have this kind of cool old firehouse museum with trucks and things. It's fun. We can walk through the bunk house, slide down the pole, then go see the trucks out back." He smiled at the man behind the counter as they approached and got their tickets.
