Melanie was a little relieved when move-in day was just around the corner. And then finally it was here. She loved her family dearly but she couldn't help thinking they'd get their house back. She had invaded them for quite awhile. But she had missed them so much and she enjoyed it a lot. Mentally, Mel was running through her checklist. She had a feeling she was forgetting something. It was what she did. it was rare when Melanie always remembered things she was supposed to pack or bring somewhere. Without realizing it she had passed her room. So she turned around. This time she paid better attention to her surroundings. the door was open so she went in. It looked like her roommate had already beaten her there. "Hey, I'm Melanie," she announced as she entered. The girl had her back to Mel so she could even really begin to guess as to what the girl was like. ”Hey, it’s nice to...” Lydia was halfway through her greeting when she trailed off, having finally taken in the other girl’s appearance. It was like looking in a mirror. “Wow.. you look.. just like me...” They were dressed differently, of course. The girl obviously had a slightly different sense of style than she did. Their hair was styled a little differently, too. Other than that, though, they were identical. To say that Lydia was shocked was an understatement. This kind of thing just didn’t happen in real life. Mel had barely heard anything the girl said after she got a look at her. She looked...they looked...this was crazy. She couldn't have been seeing correctly. But when the other girl commented on how how they looked the same...well they couldn't both be seeing things, right? "This is...insane," Melanie murmured. She felt like she stepped into some movie. "How is this possible?" she finally asked. She always figured that she could have siblings or family that she didn't knew existed. But she never thought she could have. twin. Standing there and having someone who looked exactly like her looking back at her...wel it was just plain weird. Lydia just shook her head. What. the. actual. fuck? This just wasn’t possible. This was completely fucked up. Things like that didn’t happen in real life. They happened on soap operas and in really lame movies. “I don’t know,” she said out loud. Why was this girl asking her. She didn’t have a fucking clue how something like this could have happened. She knew her dad wasn’t exactly the greatest guy in the entire world and he certainly had his secrets and schemes... but surely she would know she had a twin in the world. Obviously, this was just some freak... thing. Melanie wasn't asking her. She just said what she was asking herself out loud. She couldn't wrap her head around it. This seemed like some sort of joke. She had a long lost twin out there? That happened to be her roommate when she transferred to LA? "I always thought I might have siblings out there but a twin...well, that never occurred to me," Melanie mused after several long moments. Hell she could have more than just the girl in front of her out there. Lydia shook her head. “No, my dad would have told me,” she started automatically. If she stopped to think about it, she’d have to second-guess that assertion, but it was what she wanted to believe. No matter what, she wanted to believe her father wouldn’t keep something this big from her. And Owen.. Owen would definitely have told her if she had siblings out there, especially a twin. “This is probably just one of those freak things. Like.. you hear how everyone has a doppelganger. Maybe it’s true. Maybe we just look alike.” That made more sense than bumping into some long lost twin she couldn’t possibly have, right? That made more sense. Or at least, Melanie was telling herself that it made more sense. Other wise, why wouldn't her twin have been with her? Why would she have grown up not knowing she had a twin? Why wouldn't they have both been adopted? She wondered though if maybe the girl was adopted too. If she was, maybe they were more than just two people who looked like the other. "Your dad?" Melanie finally said. "Like dad...as in biological father?" she asked. She couldn't explain it but if she wasn't adopted, Melanie felt like idea that they just looked alike could be closer to being true. "Maybe he can tell us its some crazy coincidence than," Mel suggested. Meeting this girl, seeing her face looking back at her...it had left her with far more questions than she was comfortable with. While she'd love to simply tell herself that all it was was a coincidence, she couldn't help making sure. He would be able to tell them that, right? ”Yeah...” Lydia didn’t really get why there was a distinction there, but she gave a little mental shrug. “I’m sure it is,” she said with more confidence than she felt. “I mean, I can talk to him about it, but I’m sure it’s just some freaky... thing. He would have told me if I had a twin out there.” Again, she said the words with more confidence than she felt. You never knew with her dad. Sometimes he did things that didn’t exactly make sense. She didn't really know what to do from there. This was just too weird. It was definitely something she was going to have to mention to Jase and Abby. And soon. It just didn't sit right with her. It wasn't something Melanie could really explain to herself, let alone anyone else. "I just figured you're right. If he was, well he'd have known and told you," Mel explained. She didn't think a parent would really keep something like that from his family. "So…I'm sure you are right," Melanie said. Either way she was still left with too many questions, scenarios. She was definitely going to have to talk to her brother soon. |
