Timothy liked to think that he was punctual, but that was not entirely accurate. He was not merely punctual. He did not arrive on time. When he committed to being somewhere, he usually arrived ten to fifteen minutes early. When such an engagement involved Elaine Richards, though, it was not uncommon for him to arrive a full half hour in advance. Tonight was no exception to that rule. Upon arriving thirty minutes before his reservation, the maître d’ placed him at the bar. He was not of age, but he did not protest when the bartender presented him with a complimentary glass of wine. Instead, he thanked the man and brought the glass up to his lips. Sometime later, an attractive blonde took the seat next to him. Polite conversation ensued, but it was not long before that small turned into something more. The corner of his mouth pulled into a slight smirk when the woman began to come on to him. Her advances were subtle, but he saw them for what they were. It went without saying, but he had absolutely no interest in her. She was attractive, but she did not compare to the woman he was meeting. As far as he was concerned, no one could. When the woman finally reached out to touch his hand with her own, he politely pulled away. "I do apologize," he told her, "but I am…" Unsure of how to accurately describe his relationship with Elaine, Timothy hesitated. "I am promised," he finished a moment later. There was a time where he would have been receptive to such advances. That was before he had begun to seriously pursue a certain redhead, though. |
