It was beginning to be a habit. About once a week, Matthew would let a friend - usually Annabel - or his daughter keep Allen for the evening and he'd invite Evelyn to join him for dinner. He told himself that he simply didn't want the food he was cooking to go to waste, but even he knew that wasn't the complete truth. Matthew enjoyed Evelyn's company immensely and in the four months that had passed since their first meeting, he'd begun to grow attached. Who could blame him? She was beautiful and smart. She was an excellent conversationalist. He wouldn't say he was in love with the woman, but he definitely looked forward to seeing her. Occasionally, they would go out to dinner, have a few drinks, do a little dancing. Just as often, though, one of them would cook a meal and that was the case tonight. Matthew was actually a fairly good cook and the meal he had prepared had been quite delicious. A bottle of wine had accompanied the meal, though they had only finished about half of it at this point. He lips curved into a smirk as he came to a realization. The dishes were done, they were all alone. It was only about 8 o'clock. Evelyn was still standing near the sink and he smiled a little mischievously as he placed his hand on the counter, each one on either side of her. "There's something painfully alluring about watching you with that towel, Miss Hughes," he murmured before he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. They'd kissed on more occasions than he could count at this juncture, so he was certain the embrace would not be unwelcome. |
