Izzy wasn’t exactly what you would call domestic. She’d grown up spoiled, not really having to do a whole lot for herself and she hadn’t really thought about things like cooking or laundry in those days. Now, though, she’d gotten used to doing those things for herself. Living out on her own - or with Ben, at any rate - meant that no one was there to do all those things for her and it wasn’t like Ben had the time. This was why Izzy found herself often grabbing both his clothes and hers an dragging them to the laundry. With the way he worked on top of going to class, she didn’t want him to have to worry about doing it and to be honest she got a little bored, anyway, waiting for him to come home from work. Izzy hummed along with the radio as she worked. She frowned, though, when she pulled a pouch of pills from the pocket of one of Ben’s pairs of jeans. What the hell? A few hours later when Ben arrived home, he was met by a confused and annoyed girlfriend. The longer she’d had to stew over the pills, the more irritated she got. They were drugs, right? They had to be. What else would come in a pouch like that? “Mind telling me what these are?" she asked him rather than giving him her usual greeting as he stepped into the apartment. There was a large smile stretched across his features as he entered the apartment, but it fell slightly when he saw that his girlfriend was waiting for him. Under normal circumstances, Ben would've been happy to have her greet him at the door. At the moment, though, he could tell that she was annoyed. "Hey, ba.." he began, but his greeting was cut short when she began to question him. He managed to school his expression when she produced the small bag of pills, but his heart began to pound in his chest. It had been over a year since he'd started taking uppers, but this was the first time he'd been confronted about it. Of course, this was also the first time he'd been stupid enough to get caught. "I'm not sure," he lied smoothly. "I found them in one of the bathrooms at work. I meant to throw them away, but I forgot they were there." He didn't make a habit of lying to his girlfriend, but he knew this was one instance in which he couldn't tell the truth. "You found a bag of drugs in the bathroom and put them in your pocket?" she questioned him. Izzy didn’t want to think he was lying. He’d never lied to her before as far as she knew and a big part of her really wanted to believe they weren’t his. It sounded a little weird, though. Wouldn’t the bathroom have had a trash can? Despite her lingering doubt, though, Izzy’s posture and expression relaxed when he provided her with an explanation. She didn’t want to believe the drugs were his. She didn’t want to fight with him, either. Izzy hated fighting with the people she cared about. She was looking at him expectantly, but she hoped he’d have a plausible answer for her, a reason why he hadn’t just tossed them right there in the bathroom. After all, this was Ben. The idea of him taking drugs was completely ridiculous. "Well.. yeah." When she repeated the lie, he realized that it wasn't a very good one. He'd found a bag of drugs in the bathroom and put them in his pocket? Who did that? No sane person. What had he been thinking? "Well, I mean.. I had intended to show them to Mr. Rico, but he had me running all over the building the day that I found them, and I completely forgot," he added to the story without hesitation. "I thought he might want to know that one of his employees is taking drugs.. assuming they're drugs. For all I know, it could be some sort of allergy medicine. I figured he would have a better idea of what they are. Little white pills and their active ingredients aren't exactly my forte." Ben felt guilty for lying to Izzy, but chose to ignore it. After all, he couldn't tell her the truth. If he told her the truth, she would want him to stop taking the pills, and he couldn't do that. Without them, he couldn't do everything he needed to do in a day. Hoping his explanation would be enough for her, he gestured to the brown paper bag he was holding and smiled. "I picked up Chinese food on the way home. Hope you don't mind. I was craving fried dumplings." It was probably stupid of Izzy to believe Ben, but she did. Maybe it was largely because she didn’t want to doubt what he was telling her, but she found herself nodding her head at his explanation. It did sort of make sense and she definitely wasn’t going to push the issue. “I hope you got extras, because you know those are my favorite," she said when he pointed out the Chinese and mentioned his craving for fried dumplings. Now that she wasn’t distracted by the bag of pills she’d found, she could smell the food he’d brought home and it smelled amazing. “I’m starving," she announced as she moved a little closer to him. “I could eat that entire bag all by myself!" Ben very nearly sighed with relief when she accepted his explanation for the bag of pills that she'd found while he was at work. With the way the conversation had began, he hadn't been sure that she would believe his lies, and as horrible as it sounded, he was grateful to see that she had. After all, he had no desire to explain that he needed to take speed in order to be the boyfriend, student, and employee that he was expected to be. "I had them give us two orders so that neither of us would have to share," he answered with a smirk. A large part of him wanted to find some excuse to take the bag from her, but he knew that wouldn't help his case. The pills were expensive, but he couldn't act concerned about them if he wanted her to believe that they weren't his. "Let's get you fed, then," he answered as he dipped his head and brushing a light kiss over her lips. "I wouldn't want to keep you hungry." “You are amazing," Izzy announced with a rather bright smile when Ben informed her that he’d gotten two orders so there would be plenty of fried dumplings for them both. She was more than happy to focus on dinner and forget about the discussion they’d just been having now that he’d given her a reasonable explanation. As he brushed a kiss over her lips, she smiled again and took a moment to return the kiss. She was definitely hungry, but she allowed her lips to linger against his slightly. She hadn’t seen him for hours, after all, and she definitely didn’t mind spending a little time kissing him before dinner. A moment later, though, she was grabbing his hand and pulling him toward the kitchen so they could grab some plates and silverware. She dropped the bag of pills into the garbage can as they passed it. “What do you want to drink, baby?" she asked him as she moved toward the refrigerator. The corners of his mouth pulled up into a large smile when she told him that he was amazing. As he'd just lied to her, that description wasn't remotely accurate, but he enjoyed hearing her say it. "I am, aren't I?" Ben didn't mind in the least when Izzy lingered in the embrace. In fact, he was more than happy to spend several moments kissing her. He hadn't seen her since early that morning, after all, and he missed her when they were apart. A little while later, she was leading him into the kitchen. He saw her drop the pills into the garbage as they passed it, and he breathed a sigh of relief. Had she flushed them or washed them down the drain, he wouldn't have been able to retrieve them. Since they were still in the bag, they would be fine until he could sneak in here to get them. "Soda," he answered as he moved to the cupboard and pulled out three plates and two bowls. "I couldn't decide between eggdrop and wanton, so I got both." Once he'd set the plates and bowls on the counter, he moved to collect the silverware they were going to need. "Dinner cost a small fortune, but I figured I'd just make you earn it." He paused to look over his shoulder and grin wickedly at her. Izzy merely stuck her tongue out at him, a completely mature response to his feigned ego. She knew he didn’t really have an ego that large, but she couldn’t help the childish gesture anyway. Granted, that was forgotten as they kissed, but that was beside the point. “How am I going to earn it, baby?" she asked him, eyes wide with mock innocence as she fished around the fridge for a couple of sodas. She certainly had a few ideas of her own, but it was more fun to pretend she didn’t know what he meant. At least for the moment. Ben laughed softly when she feigned innocence. He knew it was an act, but that didn't mean he wasn't amused by it. "I'll show you later," he promised as he pulled two spoons and two forks from the drawer. Once he'd set them on top of the plates and bowls, he turned to watch her fish around in the refrigerator. His gaze flickered briefly to the garbage can, but it quickly moved back to her bottom. It was rather nice, after all, and he took a moment to admire the view. A heartbeat later, though, he moved forward and popped her rear end rather roughly. "Let's eat!" he proclaimed before pulling their eating utensils into his hands and rushing into the living room Izzy grinned at his response. She’d been playing dumb, but she was really looking forward to the demonstration he was hinting at. “Promise?" she teased, her eyes twinkling mischievously. A part of her almost wanted to skip dinner, but she was really hungry, so she thought better of it. She shot him something of a look when he popped her rear, but she followed him anyway. “I’m going to get you for that, Shaw," she teased as they made their way into the other room. "I swear," he answered without the slightest hesitation. Ben was setting everything out on the coffee table when she followed him into the living room, but he paused to grin at her when she threatened him. "I certainly hope so." With a chuckle and a shake of his head, he set back to work. Izzy wasn't especially curvy or feminine, but she was exactly what he wanted. In his opinion, they wouldn't finish with dinner nearly quick enough because, as hungry as he was, he found himself thinking that she was what he really wanted. |
