"Yeah, but, I can't suddenly start acting like it doesn't matter, either, just because you've told me now," Sean replied. "I wouldn't want to lose it, either. It's a little bit like being an officer, I think. It's not enough to wear the bars or stars if you don't act in a way that upholds them. It's not enough that I've made you proud before now. I'm only twenty-one. I want you to still be proud of me when I'm forty, or eighty."
Smiling, Sean bumped his shoulder against his dad's before giving him another hug. "It doesn't matter how well you sing, you know." He nodded. He was starting to get it, even if they still didn't really speak the same language. "I know, Dad."
Nodding again, he slipped the memory card into his pocket. "I will."
