Re: Sam/Sean
Sean didn't contradict his dad, just smiled. But, he knew his dad didn't get what he'd needed in graduation. Proving he was good at all this, getting his shit done when needed, that wasn't what Juilliard had been about. "You know, when I was sixteen, I decided I didn't need to hear that as much as I thought I did. I'd pretty much convinced myself of it before you disappeared after my birthday last fall. I was wrong, I think. I still want to make you proud, Dad."
Chuckling, he shook his head. "A cappella is a perfectly valid form of expression," he said with a smirk. "That's what scat singing is for."
It was funny, as far as they'd come in a few months, Sean didn't think his dad really got a number of things. "Dad, I'm not going anywhere. Jen and the others may want to get out. But, I don't. I'll go where you need me to. But, going into the city is just a big reminder of how it's not home anymore." Even if it wouldn't break their precious cover, he couldn't just walk into a club on Friday night and ask to sit in for a set. No one knew him. The doors Juilliard had opened for him were shut and bolted now. He hadn't paid his dues here and wouldn't be allowed to anyway. "I'm as safe as anyone else is on the base."
