Who: G Callen and Robert Callen
Where: Base to NJMP
When: Friday, June 10, 2011
Summary: G decides to make time for a little brotherly bonding...with speed.
Practical reviews had been suspended that morning so that G could catch up on proctoring several qualification tests. Between the sudden influx of new arrivals, time in L.A., Burke's death, restructuring the teams, reassigning houses, reworking training schedules, the move to the new center, his own need for break before he broke, and all the host of other little things that had to be done right then, he hadn't been able to get them done the way he should have. So, there were ten people ready to test and he tested them all that morning. Now, there were ten newly qualified to carry. If they would was another story all together.
It worked out well for G's personal plans, as well. Qualifications didn't take up the entire amount of time set aside for classes in the mornings. But, there wasn't enough time left over to run a decent practical. So, he was free to dismiss them early, before noon.
And, he needed the break. It wasn't the same sort of break he'd needed before. He could work through this particular stress just fine. He just needed out for awhile. He also wanted to spend some time with his brother. Originally, he'd intended to do this some weekend. They'd have more time that way. However, that wasn't going to be possible while the household was firmly in the grips of Savannah's wedding preparations and G had promised to go with her for a dress this weekend. That would be an interesting out of itself considering he'd been casually avoiding lengthy conversations with her since Monday, when it had become clear to him that really, any attempt at a conversation was going to become an argument and he didn't want to do that. She was too stressed and he didn't have the energy to keep it up.
Another reason why he really wanted to get out for awhile. He had a practical, training related excuse. But, he was going to enjoy it more than a little. And the directions he had said two hours to get to where they were going. In New York traffic, G wasn't betting on less than three. So, getting through early was a true boon if he didn't want to piss off his partner.
Sam hadn't been pleased when G had filled him in on the plan that morning. At all. But, the rules weren't being broken, just...stretched a bit.
Catching Robert after he dismissed the class, G was being very careful not to grin as he asked if the younger Callen would come with him down to the basement of the Team Center, where the garage was located. It wasn't until they got down there and G showed him the two motorbikes he'd gotten Hetty to rent for the day that he let that grin out. Next to each one was a helmet and a backpack with riding leathers, which were required where they were going. "So, it's nothing like racing up PCH in the jag and we have to give these back at the end of the day. But, you want to come on an adventure with me, little brother?"
