He chuckled, that sounded a lot like the talk he'd had with Sam. "Whoever said that is right, there are so many different levels of screwed up going around. "Sometimes you've just got to be thankful that you're not as messed up as someone else out there." And Marty knew his own life could be much worse, and he was thankful it wasn't - it didn't always make it easier, but it helped with perspective at the very least. He supposed Savannah was probably right, he didn't talk about family with Sam or G, and it had only come up in passing with Kensi, and yet with Savannah they talked about family quite a bit. "I suppose it's a bit of a novelty for some of us." He shrugged. "People with happy family lives don't normally get caught up in the kind of work we did back home, so we don't spend much time talking to people who are used to that sort of thing."
"It could be a plan though." Marty liked the idea that it was a plan, that Savannah had seen and would manipulate G's reaction to her own benefit - it's what he would have done after all, but then Savannah didn't have the same kind of motivations he did.
He arched an eyebrow when she told him she'd gotten Sam to trade fighting lessons for help with her cheerleading. "So what exactly are you going to be expecting us to do? Throwing you in the air? That kind of thing?" That's what cheerleaders did, right? He'd seen guys hold a girl on one hand over their head before and he was pretty sure he wasn't up to doing that right away, and he'd seen how high those girls could get thrown and he wasn't sure he was actually the best person to catch anyone doing something like that either.
"Yeah, yeah." Marty nodded, coughing again and shaking his head. "I'm fine." Savannah certainly had a way of saying the unexpected. "Oh sure, I love kids, they're fun to play with sometimes." when they were old enough to talk to you, but still young enough not to go around with some kind of hates the world attitude. "Never wanted any of my own though."
