"We can go spar when I'm done talking to people," he offered, without commenting on the need. Sparring was much better than getting drunk as far as he was concerned.
"No, you don't just move on, Tim. You do what you can to solve the case, and you remember why you're doing it. You remember the man that he was, but you don't let it paralyze you. You move on from all those feelings that are inside you right now, because if you don't, you'll never be able to do anything in your life," he said gently.
Derek let go so he could stand in front of Tim and put his hands on his partner's shoulders. "You accept the danger, accept the fear, but you don't let it rule you. Instead, you use it, so next time you're out there, you think little more, you pay more attention, you get to your gun just a little faster." He squeezed Tim's shoulders. "No one is after seeing someone you know killed. You aren't the first person to doubt his ability to do the job and you won't be the last one either, but you'll be fine, Tim. Give yourself some time."
