Derek understood the confusion, fear, frustration, sadness, and many more emotions all crumpled into one giant ball of feelings that threatened to spill out and leave you empty. He would make sure to speak to all of them and ensure that they could deal with it.
"I think you're not fine. I think that reality is settling in a way that you don't like. I think that you want to run until you can't breathe anymore. I think that you'd rather be home getting drunk than here talking to me." He looked at Tim. "Getting close?" he asked with a soft smile. "I'll let you in on a secret. We all feel like that, but some of us have gone through this a few times, and it doesn't make it easier, but we've learned how to deal with all that you're feeling. "
He squeezed Tim's shoulder. "It's hard to lose a colleague. It's probably the hardest thing you'll go through, but you deal, if you're lucky you find a resolution, and then you move on."
