Re: G and Robert
"Not really." G shrugged. "I've just never enjoyed celebrating a day that wasn't mine. The date on my official records was made up by the first case worker. All she cared about was whether or not I should start kindergarten in the fall. She picked a date she found convenient -- January First." A date so convenient it was used universally for blank dates and empty fields, even while it was lost to holiday celebrations. It's just never really meant much to me." He laughed softly, toying absently with the bracelet at his wrist. "Christmas is fine. Armed Forces Day...Independence Day...Flag Day... I do only have a two-car garage, though. You go nuts buying me gorgeous machines, you'll have to house them for me."
He snorted and shook his head. "No kidding. Guess where the explaining things started?"
For a beat, he held his breath, waiting to see how his brother reacted. Then it came and G couldn't help laughing again -- partly in relief, but partly in acknowledgement of the sheer insanity of what they were doing. "Thanks. Guilty as charged on all of the above. Neither of us do things by halves. If we're going to do them, we do them. That's the one way in which I wish home was like here, for his sake. Gay men can be married and open in the military here. Our jobs and our status as partners would still be on the line. But, he wouldn't be risking his place as a SEAL for me if that were true at home."
