Derek nodded. "It has been. It was just a few of us, only six at the beginning, seven with Savannah. Now there are twenty-seven. It's a big difference," he pointed out.
"Not different enough. You're out there and can forget that you're not home. I think that's the hardest part, not letting your guard down, which is very easy, because you think you know everything, and then something happens and reality hits you." He looked toward the fence. "The Central Park area is very different. You know how you could just go inside the park? Now, it's all fenced in. You need to go through metal detectors just to get into the park, another set when getting into the buildings. It's harder to see in the rest of the city."
