"Hey, maybe they have different rules here and jeans are an acceptable way to dress for competition." She shrugged. "Just telling you the truth, and all right, so you aren't fat and don't need much to look handsome," she said, the slight heat on her cheek was the result of the wind anyway.
"It's what we are," she said. "We're athletes. Why do football players play football when it's so violent? Or hockey players? Why do cops become cops when it's so risky? It's our job and we don't just let ourselves get thrown around. We train hard, we prepare our bodies the best way we can, and we work as a team. We rehearse until we all know our counts and where we are supposed to be at each moment, and then we trust our bases to know what they are doing and catch us."
She raised an eyebrow. "Then was he lying?" she asked, not that that part was surprising. "It isn't because of you. You aren't the one who kidnapped and drugged me. You aren't the one keeping me locked up or drugged. You shouldn't feel bad for something you didn't do and I don't expect you to protect me from them."
