"I'm not even trying," she said with a smile. "But we can talk about other things and I ignore the insanity."
She chuckle. "No, I think we define things differently. To me, it can't me love or a marriage if it started as a cover. It's just... a lie and anything based on that lie can't be real. So you might call it love, but it's not what I think about when I think of love." She sighed. "I'll agree that you need a lot more than love. We'll just have to disagree on the rest."
Savannah rested her head on his shoulder again. "I thought I had found him, but I can't believe that any man is worth changing who I am. Not Marty, not Dan, not anyone else." She snorted. "You'd make a lousy anything, I think, but see, you wouldn't ask that of him, because it's wrong. You know it's wrong, and ... I've really tried to make things feel right, but they don't, and I can't do it anymore. I know that I keep making the same mistakes, trying to change for others, to make them happy, but I'm done doing that, because I can't be happy that way."
