Re: Savannah and G
"Chain of command around here isn't as cut and dried as it should be. There's responsibility at every level of command. Abby reported to all three of us, officially. But, was my report the longest. Accepting that doesn't make me less fine, though. Okay? It comes with the territory of being a lead." And for the most part, it was true. He was fine. Whether he would still be fine in a few weeks or months, who knew. His mind was a treacherous place. But, for now, he was fine and he was doing what he did best -- worrying about his team, his partner. "You do that," he said with a chuckle.
He shook his head. This place was killing his edge. He kept failing at what he was supposed to be so good at. He was supposed to be good at reading people, knowing what to say in any situation, making people believe what he wanted them to believe. And for the last six months he'd failed every attempt at all of that. "I'll see what I can do about that."
As she told him about what was going on with Deeks and her worries, he couldn't help wondering if this was going to be another one of those moments. Another failure to communicate. But, he'd try anyway because he didn't know when to quit.
"Is it that he doesn't want to or that he's scared?" he asked, knowing there was no point in trying to explain to her that some people didn't need that marriage to take forever. It was important to her, even if G didn't see the merits in it anymore. The question, he supposed, was if that made it important enough to Deeks. "Being with you is different for him. When you're used to drifting, finding that touchstone can be terrifying because all of a sudden you have something real to lose, where you never did before. It may just be he needs more time. You've spent your entire life preparing to be married, to be some lucky man's wife. He's spent a long time pushing that sort of thing away. I might be wrong, but, I think if he's able to say to you that he wants forever, he does. I've seen him with you and I know he loves you. But, he maybe just need more time to deal with his own fear, to get control of other things that might make him worry about his ability to take care of you," he added pointedly, avoiding stating directly his own suspicions the issues Deeks had controlling his power and his jealousy might be a factor in any reluctance he showed Savannah. "Have you asked him why he's uncomfortable with the idea of marriage?"
Hugging her tightly to him with the arm still around her shoulders, he nodded. "If that happens, we'll see what we can do about converting the office." They could always move the TV into their room, the couch and table into the basement. If it came to that.
