RP: Delivering the News Who: Hetty to Everyone Where: Base When: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 -- evening Summary: Hetty informs the team of Abby's suicide.
Receiving the text from Sam and coming home to 'check' on Abby was only the beginning of Hetty's role. There were protocols for everything. Call April. Get her initial report, then the autopsy report. File her own reports on the apparent suicide. There was no family to contact in this dimension. But, there were a number of individuals who had been, if not directly family, at least a part of the NCIS family, who needed to be contacted personally rather than hear through the grapevine or the more impersonal notification that would go out after.
Nell was told first, as she arrived at the house shortly after Hetty received April's confirmation of the suicide. She left shortly afterward to find Eric and be with him when he got the news.
A call to Leon, as the one closest to the young woman and director of both agencies, followed that.
Callen and his household came next, the young agent sounding as professional and detached as ever as he promised to relay the word to Sam and Deeks. Hetty couldn't help wondering where his thoughts really were.
Kensi and Dom were next, though Hetty did not know how affected this Dom would be given this was not an Abby he would know and her own Dom had barely met the young woman.
Finally, Hetty called Eric, who, of all of them, had been closest to Abby before coming to this dimension.
With the calls to the NCIS family completed, Hetty made two more, one each to Morgan and Burke. The leads for each unit would need to know before the email was sent out to be prepared for whatever reactions their direct reports might have.
By then, she was sure those who knew would already be spreading the word. But, a formal notice was still required.
From: Hetty Lange <h.lange@icis.org> To: undisclosed Subject: Abby Sciuto
It is with a heavy heart I must inform you of the passing of one of our own. This afternoon, Miss Sciuto was found after having taken her own life. Her final message to all was one of love and regret for what she felt she must do. We would hope she will be remembered for the vibrant young woman she was and not this unfortunate last act of her life.
Details regarding a memorial service will be forthcoming within the next few days as arrangements are made.
