Re: John and Mike
"I'm sorry, John," he said solemnly, respectfully, and resolutely. "I'm sorry."
He leaned over the counter, listening intently to John's words and considering them carefully. "I completely agree it can't be set off by a someone staying behind. As you mentioned there's the risk of someone getting caught in the blast. And this is supposed to go down when we're escaping. We're not throwing anyone to the wolves, if I have anything to say about it and right now I seem to do." He thumbed the countertop, letting the thoughts congeal into a coherent whole. "But remote detonation by cell phone might not be the best route. What if they put up cellphone jammers when they move on us? It's what I'd do--disrupt as many possible communication mediums as one can. Maybe shortwave radio? Harder to jam, might provide enough distance."
Mike nodded. "The layers are a good idea. Should we reverse it perhaps? Something to get their attention, hopefully, sucker them into the houses, then have the greater explosion. That's the problem with remote detonation, we'd have to be within line of sight to know when to activate any which layer." He tapped the counter some more and looked up at John then over at the wall, thinking. Of course there were motion sensors, which brought a whole lot of problems, like setting them prematurely. He'd think on that while he was upstairs.
"I need yogurt," he headed for the stairs, "Can I get you anything, John?"
