Re: G, Hetty, Abby
"I have a great many interests, Mr. Callen. My door is always open when you want to hear about more of them." Hetty knew she wasn't able to be as hands on here as both she and her agents were used to at home. The job was too different and the stakes even higher, even moreso now that Abby was her unhappy guest. She felt it with the distance between her and the non-NCIS amoung them, the lack of intrinsic connection she had with her NCIS agents. But, she felt it most keenly with this young man who had always been a bit more special to her. It didn't require special powers to read the uncertainty in him, even if he was very good at hiding it from those who did not know him as well.
Why am I here? As long as I won't kill, they say I'll get someone else killed. So, why am I here, now?
Hetty's attention was immediately claimed by the thought that wasn't hers. Because she had taken the risk of bringing Abby with her, seeing how she did with others around, Hetty was keeping her mind more open to surface thoughts than she did normally. The calming properties of the tea Callen had brought her were even more welcome as a result. A surreptitious glance around the shared yard showed that Abby was standing to one side, near the space between two of the houses. Just as her eyes found the young woman, Hetty picked up her next thought as well.
I can't even think of talking to April without feeling guilty. I can't be the reason she gets killed. Or Mikey.
Hetty frowned.
"Something wrong?" Callen was watching her curiously. But, Hetty needed to focus on what she was hearing.
There was a pair of MPs that walked past a few minutes ago. If I slip through now, while she's talking to him , I can catch them and end this once and for all. No one will have to worry about getting killed if I turn myself in now. The way I should have done before.
"I think my old bones have taken all the damp they need for one afternoon, Mr. Callen. Miss Sciuto has just disappeared between the houses there. Would you mind retrieving her for me before she can get into a conversation with anyone. I'd rather not wait. Our car is out front. If you'll just bring her along and let Nell know we'll see her at home whenever she feels like leaving?"
