Re: Sam/Sean
Even more than the fighting and combat training, it was the mental adjustments, the changes in the way he had to think, that bothered Sean the most about all this. It wasn't that he wasn't open to new ideas and thoughts, but it was the particular way of thinking that got to him, seemingly closed off and detached. But, he listened to what his dad had to say, anyway, determined to prove he could do this, that he wasn't going to be the one to let anyone down...especially his dad. It was hard to ignore the years of feeling like a disappointment, no matter how many times his dad said he wasn't. Three weeks was too soon to get over that. His dad's words still helped, though, even if they were hard to believe. "But, I like questioning things," he teased half-heartedly. "Yeah, okay. Training. Insanity."
Sean rolled his eyes. "That's what I meant. You don't talk. So, no one who you don't talk to will see what I see. I've been here almost three weeks, Dad. That's more than long enough to see how different you are here at the house from the way you act with everyone else." He smirked. "Even if this resembles nothing like relaxation to me."
Snorting, he shook his head. "Not sure that isn't worse. He should have some claim on your time, Dad. At night after everyone goes to sleep? That's hardly any real time for the two of you. Even big bad agents need time for other, non-work, relationships -- or they should. I...I'm selfish and jealous and I don't want to share you when we're finally getting some real time as a family, insane as this situation is and all. But, you two should have time to be together as a couple outside the working relationship." Sean cast his father a wicked smile. "Am I going to have to look after you two? Train you both how to have a relationship like normal people, while you train me how to shoot?"
The step-father comment threw him, though and he just stared at his dad for a moment. Being with someone, being in love, somehow, he'd never connected the dots on exactly how serious it must be. Although, on second thought, he should have, given how closed in all these agents seemed to be. Snapping out of it, he laughed. "Does he know you're out to get him like this? But, you're in luck, as I don't even need the bribery." Mirth dying slowly, he bit his lip. "He knew about us before, right? I mean, a lot of guys aren't into suddenly inheriting kids when they date someone, especially growing or grown kids. He's not going to secretly resent that we're here?"
