That was just wrong as far as April was concerned. How were you supposed to control another person's behaviour? She wasn't even sure how to respond to that, and it made her wonder how many good men and women who have lost their careers because of situations like that. It wasn't that she wasn't aware of different jobs having different codes of conduct, and doctors, surgeons especially, were more competitive than most, but this was something else. Or maybe she was just to low in the hierarchy to know what things were really like at the top. Still this sounded extreme, at least as far as she was concerned. Like something out of a novel.
"It doesn't sound like you're enjoying yourself very much," she said, though keeping her voice low so that she wouldn't be overheard.
"Hetty has a great taste in clothes," she said, and no matter how serious tonight was, that opinion wouldn't change. She'd always be happy she'd got to wear something like this. She would have to remember to tell Hetty thank you at some point.
