"If she does, her husband's career is over," he answered. "There are a few, and the rules don't change. For example, say one spouse betrays the officer and it comes out, that person will never be promoted again. You're supposed to control your affair at home. If you can't do that, you can't lead men into war. There might be some chance of promotion if there's a quick and painless divorce. Maybe."
Dom took a sip of the champagne, before grinning. "They are exactly what I thought they would be: modern day witch hunts, waiting for someone to make the wrong move so they can be burned at the stake, and hopefully that person isn't you, so you are a step closer to promotion. I would have been happy never to set foot in one," he added, chuckling, "but then I'm sure every officer in this room feels the same."
He looked down at the suit and smiled. "I'm sure Hetty agrees with you."
