Now, this was familiar territory. They could discuss this forever and a day and Sam wouldn't have a problem. "Are you saying that you can't take the type of training that a ninety-four pound cheerleader with no previous military exposure can? My, my, I always knew that the Marines weren't as good as the SEALs, but really this-" he said with a small smirk. "Or are you saying that your brother is weaker than Savannah? I just want to make sure that we understand what we're saying, because I wouldn't want any misunderstandings." He looked at her. "You'll do what everyone else does, baby girl, because when it's time to run, people won't care if you were a Marine or a civilian before coming here, and I'd rather have you curse at me because I'm worse than your drill sergeant than fall behind when it counts," he added, seriously.
"Two teams: your work team and the evacuation team. They may or may not be the same. I don't know yet or I'd tell you. You live with me, you run with me." He wouldn't have accepted anything else. Sam had to smile at the other comment. "You get to hit me legitimately... if you can manage to get to me."
He squeezed Sean's hand. "Again, that's not treating you differently. We're all cut off from everything, and I don't make the rules. Rules of engagement do. I might have more freedom than you, but that freedom comes with a lot of years of experience watching out for someone that might kill me, a partner that can do the same and with the knowledge not to trust anyone, every. It takes time for all of that, and remember that when you go out, you'll be responsible to keep alive your own partner, so before you think about leaving with that person, be sure that you can live with the fact that your action or inaction could lead to that person's death." His thoughts went back to Dom and his expression darkened. "That's not something you want, son. It's the worse guilt you can live with, and no, you can't ask about that or we'll never leave, but I'll tell you when we come back if you want to know."
Sam nodded to Jenna. "Base is big enough for you to run. Keep it short and by that I mean under two hours. I'd like to ship out around noon. You can give me your clothes." He stood up, and kissed both of their heads. "We'll work this out, guys. I promise. Now, I have a trip to plan. He didn't even want to think about the nightmare that was a mall without tech support, but at least they had ear pieces and their guns. It might not completely horrible.
