Savannah loved the picnics even if there was very little grass here. Then again, it sort of looked like West Texas, so she could pretend that she was back home visiting relatives.

She had a king size sheet she used just for the picnics and she spread it around as usual. She set up the bags for the kids in a corner and then she walked around or sat down entertaining, because that's really what these afternoons were about.

She smiled at Travis as he and TJ made their way over. "Hey, you two, come and sit down." Travis needed to walk to regain lung capacity, but he couldn't overdo it either. She'd rather have him close by in case something happened, and really TJ needed people who were there for them just because, even if he still looked at her funny when she offered to help. Of course, that meant that sooner rather than later, Doug made his way too.

She looked at them grinning. "I never thought I'd have two sets of twins."

Travis chuckled. "But one set talks way more than the others."

Savannah chuckled. "I don't think the girls need to talk. They sort of... read each other's minds." It was only the fact that Marty assured her that it had nothing to do with superpowers that allowed her to joke.

"At least you feed us," Doug said, looking at their mother who was talking to their father like the fate of the world depended on them.

TJ followed Doug's gaze while settled down so he was sitting half-behind Travis to act as a backrest if his lover needed it. "We did try to tell you about the twin thing," he pointed out, despite the fact it didn't feel much like he knew what his own twin was thinking or feeling these days. "Doug has always known what I'm thinking, when I was going to do something that would get us in trouble, when I was up to something crazy, when I just needed to get out." He nudged his brother with his toe. "It just took some convincing for him to join me in my shenanigans."

"That would be because Doug has more common sense and you love an adventure," Maura teased as she came over as well. "Mind if I join you?"

"My favorite doctor is always welcome." TJ shifted his feet to give her room to sit next to Doug. Pulling off his T-shirt, he bunched it up underneath him so he could stretch out and prop himself up on his elbow without twigs stabbing him. It had been unbearably warm the day before and was still warmer today. Good excuse as any for a tan, he supposed. Okay, so technically, welcome wasn't his to give, but that had never stopped him.

Maura laughed, but Deeks' voice interrupted. "I'd milk that if I were you. I have a feeling he stops being so friendly as soon as Travis is a hundred percent." Chuckling, he leaned down to kiss Savannah on the cheek before sitting down as well. "Hope you'll forgive me for crashing. But, I saw my wife surrounded by suave, sophisticated men and thought I should come over and protect my interests."

TJ snorted, running his hand over Travis' back. "No competition from me."

Savannah kissed Marty back, but frowned. "Suave, sophisticated men? You must be needing glasses. I keep seeing poor, clueless men who need a woman to baby them and hug them and feed them and doing all the normal things that they aren't capable of doing without help, female help. But, hey, if y'all feel better with Marty's description, I can pretend to believe it, while I listen to their stories about growing up as twins. I mean some might apply, even though we have two girls and by definition smarter."

Doug snorted. "As much as I hate to say it, she might, just might have a point. If I had been smarter, I'd have ratted TJ out. It's not like the Secret Service wasn't reporting to Dad anyway."

Travis looked at TJ, grinning. "I don't envy those men. Tell 'em, Marty. LAPD is the only way to do it." And yes, using the man's name was weird, but they were out here, and despite the many lapses in Pittsburgh, he did know how to work undercover.

TJ snorted. "Of course, she's leaving out the part where those 'clueless' men may or may not actually want the hugs and kisses and babying." He swatted at his brother, but missed since he was still behind Travis and Maura was in the way of getting at Doug. "You didn't rat me out because you wanted to have a little fun as much as I did. You just didn't want to admit it. And you," he added, flicking Travis' arm, "be nice or you're not getting off until Maura clears you one hundred percent."

"I should just start including various levels of sexual activity in my allowed exercises for all recovery from now on, shouldn't?" Maura mused, shaking her head.

"Best to cover all your bases," Marty replied, chuckling. "Travis is right, though. LAPD all the way. I've seen those Secret Service guys, No sense of humor, man."

"I'll agree with that." TJ nodded. "No sense of humor whatsoever. Can't take a joke."

"There's no need to leave it out. None of the men wanted the hugs, but that's because they don't know better. I've trained every single one, even people like G and Sam." Savannah looked at Marty, grinning. "My husband knows that I always get my way when it comes to hugs, kisses and babying. You can ask him; he'll tell you."

Doug snorted. "That's because your husband wants to get laid."

Savannah glared at Doug. "Hey, watch what you say, both of you. We have children around."

"Then I want mention that I can use my hand to get off," Travis answered with a grin. "C'mon, Savannah, they are too young to understand."

"Please, talk to Dom. He's reading them Physics, because he says that their brain is capable of understanding even if they don't process it just yet," Savannah answered. "He can give you the very long explanation and he can be as serious as those Secret Service guys when it comes to the kids."

"Notice she didn't say you were wrong," TJ pointed out, grinning at his brother. Pushing up to a sitting position, he wrapped a hand around the back of Travis' neck and gently pulled him into a not so gentle kiss. "And yet your hand wouldn't be quite as satisfying as mine."

When he stretched back out again, smirking like the proverbial cat with the canary, Marty rolled his eyes. "Considering I know agreeing with Savannah will just be challenge to Thomas and telling her otherwise will just be a challenge to here, I'm going to just let you work this all out among yourselves. Just remember that if Savannah gets hurt, you deal with me."

"That's hardly as non-biased an opinion as you think it sounds," Maura pointed out.

TJ snorted. "Oh, he knows. And, Savannah, maybe it's better if the kids hear it at home, where you can explain it. Otherwise they learn out in the world and start getting ideas and before you know it, they're acting on those ideas and telling you where you can put your opinions when they disagree with theirs."

"The children's world consists of the people around here, and I can hurt all of them, and if I can't, my very unbiased husband or one of his seconds who happens to have a child of his own and to be my adopted uncle, can totally find plenty of creative ways to make people regret what they say," she said with the sweetest smile.

Travis laughed. "And since we are not masochists, we might have to drop all the discussion about hands," he said, but he leaned back and kissed TJ. He didn't move away when they broke apart. He could live without the sex if they had this intimacy, even if he was still coming to terms with what he'd told TJ after the shooting. Was he really considering marriage? Yes, better not think about it before he'd have bigger problems.

"Good choice," Savannah said, while she was still looking at the girls. "I don't think so though. I mean, I get that children go through a rebellious stage. Pretty much everyone here as done it at some point if you look at our histories, but I can't imagine the children doing it with any serious intent. They are our entire world. Not just the parents, but the family, the extended family, the friends. If it's one thing they will always know is how much they are loved regardless of opinions. Marty and I don't even share the same opinions and the children will hear them both, and they will make the choices, but they will know that we will always have their backs." She reached over and squeezed Marty's arm. "It's what parents should be doing."

"You totally missed what your husband just said about challenges, didn't you?" Chuckling, TJ moved his leg around so Travis could sit between them and still lean back. He wrapped an arm around Travis' waist, then. "I don't know. I might have a slight masochistic streak." Really, it wasn't like he hadn't grown up with Bud Hammond as an example and turned out...okay, totally fucked up, but that wasn't because he'd heard certain words or learned about sex before middle school.

Marty watched the play between everyone and just smiled. Even Doug seemed more at ease than his usual reserved, stand-offish demeanor. But, it was Travis and Thomas that had him the most amused. He could remember Travis' horrified look when Marty joked about there being something in the water that made people want to settle down around here. And now, Marty couldn't help thinking Travis looked pretty settled and happy about it. "I don't know what she's talking about," he said, innocently. "I would never lay a finger on any of you."

Okay, so, maybe he didn't have to...

TJ was shaking his head, however. "Not rebelling isn't a sign they believe any of that. And what you may think is showing you'll have their backs may not be how they interpret it. I'm not saying you won't, just that those different opinions could also extend into how they think one shows that." He was sure, in their way, his parents thought they had his back. But, they didn't even really understand what that concept meant. TJ hadn't until Travis came grinning insanely into his life. And Doug had never been the rebellious one, but they didn't support him any better than they did TJ. They just agreed with his choices more. "It might not even be about you. They're kids who'll have grown up special, different, that makes a difference. Maybe they aren't politicians' kids, but they're different. They'll have to hide that difference, put on appearances. Not everyone is cut out for that no matter what family they're born to."

"I heard what he said, but of course he means that I'm right anyway and it's just a matter of convincing everyone around us," she answered, still smiling. "And I so don't want to know about that. Any and all discussion of kinks in front of me has been banned long ago." She could still remember Jenna's reaction to her very innocent take about kinks and muscles and so not what they meant.

Savannah laughed. "Of course you wouldn't. You'd let Derek do your dirty work." And they both knew that Marty didn't have to do anything. He could just think it.

She shook her head. "I didn't mean that they wouldn't rebel. I think at some point everyone does; it's part of growing up. You test the limits, you see what you can get away with, you find your identity as an adult. I'm sure that will happen with our kids just like it happens with every kid. I meant that they will get exposure to both my ideas and Marty's and then they can make up their minds and know that we will still love them, because I refuse to do to them what our parents did to us, and by 'our' pick just about anyone here. Call me an optimist, but I think showing them how much they are loved and valued regardless of those difference is what's going to help them with the life we have."

She shrugged. "And if not, I'll still baby them, like I baby everyone when they need them. I'll train them, and I'll feed them cakes when it's time. Which reminds me, I need to get Nell's cake from the house later. The kids can stay with Uncle Travis and Uncle TJ You can teach them whatever you want."

"I'm sorry. The memo on that banning must have gotten lost in the mail. So," TJ continued, completely undeterred, "does that mean you don't have your own kinky side? Or you just don't like to talk about it? Or do you just not like talking about other people's kinks?" Partly, he was just being annoying because he was starting to get annoyed at the Princess routine. But, partly he was also curious because he couldn't understand why. He understood not wanting to talk about one's own private life, but banning an entire range of conversation seemed odd.

"You're still, by necessity, teaching them they have to hide who they are from other people, though. It's the life they'll rebel against and there are far too many rules for security to make that something you can let them just choose their opinions on and say 'we love you no matter what'. At some point, either they break the rules or you tell them their opinion doesn't matter because those are the rules. Especially when there are still plenty of adults around here willing to push the limits on those rules because they don't appreciate the life we're forced into living."

Snorting, he shook his head. "Before you do that, I'll go find this Uncle TJ for you because I don't know anyone who answers to that name for anyone."

"Now you're being naughty." Savannah knew that he was doing on purpose, and she crawled over the sheet, careful not to touch or move Travis, and hugged him. It wasn't perfect, since she was doing it sideways. "And yet, I still like you," she said with a smile. "However the serious answer is that I don't think sex is something that should be discussed with anyone not your spouse," she said with a shrug. "It's one of the most personal things you can do, sharing everything you are with another person. I think all the joking and talking diminishes what you give the person you love, the absolute trust that you have in one person and one person only. It is my gift to my husband to know that he, and only he, knows what I like, what I want, what I desire. Discussing it, even in general terms, still shows some of what you think, and that's not something that I wish to do, because then it's not special anymore."

She sat back, knowing what the problem was. They were discussing things and they were using words, but hardly meaning the same thing. "Sticking with your example. They can break the rules, and again they wouldn't be the only ones, and we explain why the rules are in effect, and we let them know why we worry. We explain it to them. We let the people in charge deal with whatever punishment is deemed necessary, but at home, we'll be there to hug them even though they broke those rules and to talk to them. I really believe that if you are open and share things, they will understand, because deep down inside, they will know that they are our priority."

She grinned. "I'll just leave them with you then and you can pass them over when you find him."

"Now, I'm being naughty?" TJ asked, shaking his head. He raised an eyebrow when she came over for a hug, but allowed it so he wouldn't risk hurting Travis somehow by trying to fend her off. "Maybe you're the masochist," he told her, rolling his eyes. Still he listened to her talk and it sounded so foreign to him. "I can honestly say I don't think I've ever considered sex special. It's fun. It feels good. Sometimes it's a power play. But, sex per se, has never been about trust. It's better with someone I do trust." He tightened his arm around Travis' waist almost imperceptively. "But, the sex isn't where trust becomes an issue." Trust became an issue in letting the walls down and talking without the masks and personas he'd created to deal with his life. For all he did the blunt honesty thing for Savannah, that was still a part in a lot of ways, giving her what she said she wanted instead of what he might really feel, the way he gave Travis everything and it was a lot more special than sex.

But he let the rest of the conversation drop. He would believe it when he saw it and not before because that any parent put their kids that much ahead in their priorities was a fable no one he knew could say they'd experienced in real life, included most of the people he'd me there.

"You know you're nuts, right? Do you even remember I'm not a baby person at all? And Travis can't exactly go running after them."

Savannah looked at him and smiled. "I can honestly say that I didn't expect a different answer It's not the first time I've heard it either." Hadn't G said something very similar? Just as well as Marty? But G had changed his mind eventually and so had Marty. She still had hope that TJ would understand eventually.

She ran her fingers over Marty's arm, smiling at him. "Love you." It was as personal as she got in public, but then they shared something even deeper. Marty could try be in her head and see everything.

"I'm not nuts and I'm just running to the house to get cake. Also, so not going now, so you don't have to worry just yet," she answered. "And it looks like Tim and Troy are getting ready for football. Come on, Marty, let's go play. Girls, let's go. You can stay with Uncle Sean for a little. I'm sure he's not going to play." She smiled at TJ. "See? I'm not nuts."

Tommy had spent the start of the picnic going over problems, weak spots, etc, with Oliver. Of course, he didn't mention that a flat land with no trees or vegetation would guarantee that they were all dead if they shot them with sniper rifles. No amount of training helped stop bullet that traveled miles in seconds and hit you before you knew what was happening. If he had said that, Oliver would have never left his side. Like ever.

Instead, he indulged Oliver, and paid attention, knowing that while it might not be crucial here, it might help in the future. Contrary to what Oliver thought, he had no intention of playing the Damsel in Distress. The rich man with private security detail would have been nice, but impossible.

He was so intent on paying attention to their surrounding, that it wasn't until later, when he went to grab a bottle of beer from a cooler that he saw what was happening. He raised his shades, because that couldn't possibly be. It had to be the glasses. Except not.

He practically ran to Maura. "What the fuck? I'm turning violet. What the hell is this?"

Looking up, Maura motioned at TJ to make room before waving Tommy down. "Sit. Let me look at you."

Not that she really needed to look to see that his skin was indeed turning rather purple. But, she did need to do a quick examination, check his vitals and his breathing. There were any number of conditions that came to mind that could cause purple skin, from Cutaneous porphyrias to Cyanosis, COPD and emphysema to cyanotic heart disease and pulmonary embolisms; all of them serious and not a one had she ever seen create quite that shade of purple. But, she wouldn't rule anything out based on a guess without even attempting to gather a few facts. Just because it looked more like the full-body purple version of Claudia's thumb didn't make it automatically related. Maybe she couldn't run tests, but she could be as thorough as possible, even if it wasn't much, to make sure she wasn't giving him false information. At least, to the best of her ability.

Reaching for her bag, she took out her stethoscope. "Any trouble breathing? Chest pains? Are you on any drugs right now? Has anything else strange happened other than this? Anything out of the ordinary right before you noticed the change? Have you eaten anything odd, come into contact with any plants or animals?"

He sat down, mostly because he was too concerned to argue how useless that was. "Is is just my hands? Tell me that I'm not turning violet all over."

Savannah looked at him. "Tommy, calm down. Let Maura look at it, and I'll go get Oliver. And Dom." He knew plenty about comic books.

Tommy looked at her. "That isn't a good sign." He stared at Maura. "Problems breathing? I'm turning a color suited for little girls and Easter eggs. Of course I'm having problems breathing." He snorted. "I wish I were high. An acid trip would so explain this, but no, no acid, no chest pains, no other pains, nothing strange, nothing other than I'm turning VIOLET."

"Tommy." TJ moved around from behind Travis so he could put a hand on his friend's shoulder. After saving Travis' life, Maura had pretty much carte blanche as far as TJ was concerned. He'd trust her with anyone he cared about after that. "Try to calm down. She has to ask. Too many downers can fuck with your circulation and the oxygen in your blood, making your skin look purple or blue." At Maura's curious glance, he shrugged. "Doctors talk about and worry about things like that when they have an OD patient. I remember odd flashes."

Maura nodded while checking Tommy's pulse. "Breathing and heart rate are elevated, but nothing unusual in a reaction to stress. Temperature appears normal. Unfortunately, that rules out most medical causes I'm aware of, Tommy. I can't be completely sure without running tests, but the only other thing I've seen similar to this is Claudia's green thumb. I'm sorry. I just can't be certain of anything if this is related to your power. I'm not a geneticist."

TJ squeezed Tommy's shoulder. "If it makes you feel better, at least it's a color that looks great with your eyes."

"TJ, I know what OD can do. We had Vertigo taking over our streets, tell me of any drugs turning you like this," he said, raising a hand. "Unless you're actually on drugs, and if you're doing this or some acid laces burgers, I will beat you or whoever is responsible up, even if it ruins my hands." Still, the idea if a widespread delusion was much better than the alternative.

Dom arrived and looked at the new skin color. "Wow, that is interesting." He looked at Deeks. "Can you think of anyone other than Purple Man and Purple Woman? Some of the space aliens from the avengers but nothing with mutants or mutates that I can think of." He looked at Tommy. "Oh and Savannah says she's getting Oliver."

Purple Man, no medical reason and then TJ talked about his eyes and he just laughed. Maybe he was losing it, but really that was the only sane response. "At least it looks great with my eyes." He took a deep breath before looking at Dom and Marty again. "So what do they do?"

"They actually control people through pheromones, but obviously we have proof that you don't need to change color," Dom said. "It could really be anything that changes your chemical structure. I'm more surprised that it's not more widespread. We don't know what a new jump will do to our bodies. We might see it more."

"You're upset, so I'll give you a pass and not point out I can out bitch you any day, so don't bother trying," TJ replied, snorting. But, he still kept his hand on Tommy's shoulder as a reassuring presence, even if there really was nothing he could do -- and that was starting to be a seriously fucked up pattern.

Marty looked thoughtful. "Wasn't Indra purple? He's one of the students in later issues. Could create an exoskeleton I always thought would be awesome if a protective vest wasn't an option in the field."

TJ was feeling a little green around the gills himself when they mentioned his power as one that changed people's skin colors...and that it could come up later with a new jump. But, he'd gotten Tommy to laugh and, therefore, relax a little more. So, he'd just breathe and pretend he hadn't heard that and wouldn't have nightmares of turning into some freakish thing for the next week.

"It does mean it's probably something that lets you physically change your body," Marty continued. "The easiest guess would be if you maybe touched something purple. It could be a form of one of the more chamleon-like powers." He didn't want to mention Jenna specifically, but he was thinking of her power. He grinned one of the grins he would have grinned back home when trying to annoy Kensi with his taste in women. "If you were blue, I'd be thinking Mystique entirely...while kind of wishing you were a woman, but that was the old, non-married me."

"Are you kidding me? You always had to watch out for the press. I never had to bother." Not that his problems had been with the press. His crimes were bigger and with a much longer jail sentence if convicted.

Dom ignored them, but listened to Deeks. "Yeah, I think you're right. He was one of the few that kept his powers after the Scarlet Witch killed most mutants. Anyone else I can think of is an alien or a god. You know we need to consider the possibilities, maybe adding professional make up to our supplies, because pink, green, violet and blue people stand out."

He pondered the rest, knowing what Deeks was thinking. "Jenna's power requires her to touch things and is limited to imitating elements. It could something similar though." He grinned at Deeks. "If he is Mystique, he can turn into a woman and shed his clothes, not that we're thinking of naked women. Although that would be one of the most radical body changes, which would explain the color change. Blue is just the default color for Marvel. It doesn't mean that he couldn't have his power." He stared at Tommy and frowned. "Your eyes... Look, the sclera is turning the same color as the iris."

"My what?" And then they wondered why he was panicking.

"The white part of your eye is turning the same blue as your iris, just ... different shades in there just like it's with the iris." Okay and now, Deeks' theory was a lot more plausible.

"And I was also always in the press for saying and doing things that weren't exactly kosher. But, that doesn't really have much to do with who can be the bigger bitch. Just who gets caught at it more." And, maybe TJ believed he was the bigger bitch. But, arguing that was taking away some of the focus on freaking out over the changes his body was going through.

Which wasn't being helped by Deeks and Vail.

"Seriously, you guys? Could you be creepier about this? He's still Tommy, not some geek lab experiment." TJ rolled his eyes and then shook his head. "Look, while I'm sure Tommy finds all of this entirely fascinating, don't you think we might consider that he doesn't really want to be on display for whatever these craptastic powers are doing to him? Why don't you geniuses sit here, wait for Savannah and Oliver to come back so you can tell Oliver where we went, and I can take Tommy home so that whatever's going on he doesn't have to have you all turning into a creepy audience...or the rest of the trailer park when we try to go back later. Seriously, you two are about as helpful as twinks on speed." TJ might have teased about the color being a good match with his eyes, but this was unreal. They were sitting around discussing the possibility of Tommy turning completely purple in public as if they were enacting Bud and Elaine Hammond, the geek years.

"I never thought I'd see the day when Thomas Hammond is the sensible one," Tommy said.

"Hey, it is fascinating and it affects everyone," Dom answered. "The possibilities of what he could do are amazing, but fine, go inside and see if you can change into something else, someone else. And before you both start, we've seen that these powers blow up in your face if you try to contain them. Just... follow your instinct and your body will do the rest."

Tommy nodded, although he wasn't really paying attention. He wanted to go home and possibly never get out of his room. "Come on, TJ, let's get out of here."

They weren't running, but they were certainly walking a lot faster than Tommy would normally walk. What the hell was he going to do? Stay inside forever? Or wear 'professional make-up'? God, those people were unbelievable.

He didn't relax until they were finally inside. "Thanks," he said, as he went to the fridge. "We have beer, and yes, I remember the good old days when we had the appropriate bottle of wine to go with every occasion, although I don't know what matches turning violet. All of that to ask if you'd like one."

"You're welcome. It was starting to be a little too deja vu for my taste. These people are insane." TJ shook his head, still annoyed at the way they'd started talking as if Tommy was some sort of bug to observe. He'd flashed back to when he was fourteen, which wasn't a good feeling.

"I'd suggest a joint instead, but Doug has my stash. So, beer sounds good. Thanks." Really, turning purple should totally be an exception to the no drugs rule. But, as it wasn't possible, sharing a beer seemed the best way to go. "I'd offer advice, but then, I didn't even know what I was doing for months. Although, I guess I should have turned green or some shit, from what they were saying. So, I know asking if you're okay is stupid. You're turning colors. But, no pain or anything like that?"

"What do you mean 'deja vu'? Or do you often have discussions about changing your skin color?" he asked, trying for a smirk, but failing miserably to deliver. "I knew they were insane the day I arrived. They have yet to prove me wrong."

He smiled. "I... I'm trying not to. You know before coming here, I wasn't really using anymore, just once in a while, trying to impress a girl, Oliver's ex. It hit me like a freight train when we got here, but it was more than physical. It was knowing that I couldn't that made it worse. I'm starting to get to the point where it's not the first thing I think when things get hard. I know a joint is nothing, but... it's a crutch." Not that the bottle he was handing TJ wasn't, but at least that wasn't his addiction of choice.

Tommy shook his head. "No pain, no shortness of breath, nothing that can't be related to turning violet." He took a sip from his bottle and sighed. "The idea of just trying to change and let my body lead sounds too much like Star Wars than real life."

"I mean they were starting to sound like my parents deciding what my being gay meant to pretty much everything and everyone." TJ shrugged. "You're not fourteen and I...didn't like hearing it again with you as a target. It's not like you asked for this shit." The conversation before with Savannah hadn't helped, either. TJ realized now how much of his fourteen year old self had been in his arguments about being different.

He smiled as he took the offered beer. "Yeah, I'm not really there, yet. I like having that crutch as an option, still, even if I don't take it. That's why Doug has the stash right now. I can't trust myself and I can't afford to be high while Travis needs me right now. That's good, though. You're...better off than I am. I'm glad."

Snorting, he shook his head while cracking open the bottle. "If this is the Force being with you, you'd rather it wasn't?" he asked before taking a sip. "So, let's just...not. If you're going to change, there's probably nothing you can do to stop it. So, why don't we just hang out on the couch. I'll stay with you until Oliver gets here. And if you change, you change. If you want to try, cool. If you want to wait and see what happens, cool, too."

"Ah, I see, but you're right, I'm not fourteen, and they aren't my parents. I think they are insane and weren't helping with the breathing hing, but-" He shook his head. "It doesn't hurt. That power we leave rests with our parents," he said, squeezing TJ's arm as he went to the couch to sit down.

Tommy snorted. "I'm not really there, yet, either. Trying to is a lot easier when I have nothing with me, no connections like home, and I've been relatively clean longer than you. What is that they say? You're always an addict? I don't think I believed it until I got here. Then again, there are people like Oliver, who used and stopped, or Brian who seems to do just as well with or without. I've stopped worrying about it."

He smiled. "The Force can go fuck itself as far as I'm concerned." He nodded. "Hanging out sounds fine. And thank you. I told you, you're a good friend, even if you looked at me like I was crazy."

"The breathing was Maura, which I actually get. She doesn't like guessing or not being able to research these things and see if there's a way of mitigating some of the side effects...like color changing skin. But, she's been pretty great about explaining the science behind my power to me without a single comic book reference." Another shrug preceding TJ following Tommy to the couch.

"Now, see, that was the part I never had any problem accepting," he went on, taking a seat. "Possibly too much. I've never doubted that I would always be an addict and this would always be a problem for me. It was the part where I could still be clean and not use despite the addiction that I didn't really believe before now. It's still my first thought, though...or at least in the first three or four. While Travis was in surgery, it was pretty much a constant thing, something to drown out reality even for just a little while." He stopped to take a pull of his beer. "But, this is not NA and you probably don't need to hear about my hang-ups right now."

TJ snorted. "Because six months ago, it sounded crazy. I mean, really, Tommy. Think about who I was back when we started hanging out. This kind of friendship? It wasn't something I knew or believed existed. I told Travis once that friends were people I fucked, people I needed something from, or people who needed something from me. And then you, who should have known me for what I was, tell me I'm a good friend? Yeah, it sounded fucking nuts. But, I'm trying." He smirked, a teasing upturn of the corner of his mouth. "Even if I can still be a bigger bitch than you'll ever be."

"I know she's your sister-in-law, but you don't have to defend her. I get why she asked and that still doesn't stop me from being bitchy." There was nothing that she could have said that would have changed that. Or maybe 'I have a cure' would have worked. "You don't like comic books references? I don't know why," he said sarcastically.

Tommy sighed. "I think I wanted to delude myself. I don't have a problem, I can stop, Dad, can't you see? It was easier to justify some of the things I did, some of the people I hang out with. Big money, big doses, big time criminals. I always justified it that I wasn't a junkie. I could stop. I didn't use daily. I know better now, because as much as I said no to your hypothetical stash, my first reaction was to get high. We are not very different." He smiled. "We can share hang-ups."

He leaned back and took another sip. "Six months ago we were all different people. None of us really knew about real friendship, the kind people talk about here. Mistrust is part of our world. We are changing. Hopefully for the better new would have turned into our fathers if we had stayed home." He chuckled. "And we will agree to disagree on who can bitch more."

"I'm not really. Just separating her from the other two, who were the insane ones and didn't mention breathing because they were too busy trying to turn you into a woman." TJ's grimace was a clear indication what he thought about that proposition. Snorting, but not taking offense, at Tommy's sarcasm, he shrugged. "You can't? Want me to go call them back, then?" he replied with equal sweetness.

TJ chuckled. "We can share hang-ups because we're hung-up on the same stupid hooks. Drug addictions and daddy issues. We're quite the pair, you know that, Tommy-boy?"

He was taking another sip when Tommy continued and had to fight not to choke. "Jesus Fuck. If I ever sound like my dad, just shoot me and put Travis out of my misery. My whole family is like the anti-change brigade and they all look at me like I'm nuts for trying to change at all, or maybe like it's a betrayal of them to try. I know it sucks, but in a way, I envy you not having to deal with your dad being here, being able to change as you want without having him around to complain about it." Chuckling, he tried that drink again. "And you can bitch more. I'm still claiming the title of biggest bitch. Subtle difference. You're one of the good guys. You bitch, but you're not really a bitch."

"Why do I feel that you're more insulted by the woman part?" He was teasing, because TJ had proved that he cared about the entire discussion. The last part was just the icing on the proverbial cake. "Oh sure, go right ahead. You can listen to their options and give me the message."

Tommy laughed openly. "I knew there was a reason I always liked you." They had partied together and that didn't make them friends, but Tommy had always felt a certain affinity and it had grown into more in Omega. "Can we switch addictions? Let's get addicted to sex. I like sex. It's a lot of fun."

He shook his head. "You don't, not here, maybe not even home, but sooner or later, it would have happened. To all of us." How long before Tommy would have toed the party line to get his money back/ Not too long he suspected. "Why should they change? They are perfect? Just ask my father. He'd confirm it." He reached over and squeezed TJ's arm. "You're doing fine with them here." He frowned, realizing that he was trying to comfort TJ even though he was still a nice tinge of violet. "All right, so maybe I am a nice guy."

"Because I hate to see any attractive man turned into a woman? It decreases my eye-candy," TJ replied with laugh. "The message is: we're a bunch of geeks who have lost touch with reality and see everyone as a slave or lab rat."

Grinning, TJ shook his head. "Man, haven't you figured out already that I am addicted to sex? Ask Savannah, I keep turning the conversation to sex and she keeps changing it." He chuckled. "Not planning on giving that one up, though. I like sex a lot. So, yeah, let's get you addicted to sex. Much more fun. Although, a lot more difficult to party together when I think Oliver is the only one to have never taken his shirt off during training, so he probably won't want an orgy. And Travis is very not keen on sharing. Might have to work on that."

Not that he seriously thought there as a foursome in their future, but joking about sex was always fun, despite what Savannah thought.

"You are definitely one of the nice guys," he said with a smile. "And it also means I can be a selfish ass and it distracts you from your purple hands." TJ tossed back the rest of his beer before patting Tommy's leg one last time. "But, it looks like your erstwhile boyfriend is here now. So, I'll leave you to his tender mercy and go make sure those lunatics haven't killed mine. You know where I am if you need me."

TJ stayed until Oliver arrived, which was great, because Tommy was sure that he'd lose it the moment that he was alone. Of course, not all company was the same. If he had to listen to Deeks and Vail discussing all the various options, he might have shot them. TJ had helped, though, and he was slightly calmer.

Slightly!

When Oliver showed up, he raised his hands and sighed. "I'm sure you never thought you'd be dating someone from Avatar. Although those were blue, weren't they? I'm told that's the default color for Marvel. I guess it works with most sci fi."

Oliver had been briefed by Savannah, so it wasn't a complete shock when he saw Tommy. Still, it wasn't exactly normal. "Take my eyes off you like you want, and you go and do this," Oliver tisked. He'd seen Tommy with Maura before Oliver had gone back to playing the game with the others.

Oliver took a seat, clasping Tommy's hand in between his own. "You're not in pain or anything, are you?" He would contact Maura, if so. Colored skin he could deal with, but not with Tommy being in any sort of pain.

Tommy snorted. "I know. I just couldn't wait to get a dye job, I had to do it," he answered, trying to sound normal, but he wasn't there yet, and maybe he wouldn't be for a long time.

He leaned against Oliver, shoulders bumping against each other. "I've already been through that with Maura. I'm fine. No pain, no anything. Just a fascinating case of mutation that could mean anything from controlling minds with pheromones to being Mystique and turning into a woman. They suggested trying to follow what my body wants. I don't know about my body, but my mind really wants to be high so I don't have to deal with this."

"We start having sex and you go all Gay Pride on me," Oliver joked. He relaxed some when he knew Tommy wasn't in pain, just freaked out. "You don't need to be high to deal with this. You're stronger than that."

Oliver shifted to wrap an arm around Tommy's shoulder. He keep Tommy's hand linked with Oliver's other hand. "You know it's a power manifesting. Other people here have powers, and are relatively sane still. I'm not about to flee in terror because you got dropped in a vat of purple paint, and I doubt anyone else will. We know Thomas didn't."

Oliver tried to be a solid, comforting presence for Tommy to let go and have a minor meltdown if he needed. He still couldn't help but add, "It's probably not the time to be enjoying imagining sucking your purple cock."

Tommy pulled his hand out and hit Oliver in the stomach, light enough that he wasn't really trying to hurt him. "Keep talking and you'll be having sex all by your lonesome." He shook his head. "I'm not stronger than this, Oliver. I'm clean, I'm staying clean, but it's not because I'm not tempted."

He leaned against Oliver, linking their hands together again. "I'm not freaked out because I thought you'd leave." That had never entered his mind. They were... they were them, best friends since they were kids. "It's because... I'm violet. Do you need more of a reason?"

Tommy snored. "You're such an ass." He looked up at Oliver. "And, my cock could turn into pussy according to those nerds discussing the possibilities, changing into different people, or I'll just stay violet and command people to do my bidding. Or other things, but I stopped paying attention."

"You're tempted, but not acting on it. That's strength to me," Oliver said.

"It could be worse. You could be fuchsia." Oliver shrugged. "I don't know what to tell you, other than I'm here. If you end up with a pussy, we can freak out together, but right now you're still you." Oliver didn't want to think about Tommy becoming a woman. He liked Tommy as he was, even if shaded violet.

"Maybe." He didn't sound too convinced. "I was talking to TJ about this, and we both used, even if I used for much longer, but the truth is that you never really needed it. You never had that addictive personality. I wish it were that easy for me."

Tommy snorted. "Fuchsia wouldn't go with my eyes. TJ already determined that this color looks great with the blue. Do they look freaky? No white, just a whole lot of blue?" He couldn't imagine what he looked like, and was avoiding the mirror for now. "I'd really like to keep my body parts.

"DO I want to? No. I want to hide forever. Do I think I should? Probably." He leaned over and kissed Oliver, needing the contact, even though they were practically on top of each other. "I like TJ, but I needed you for this. Okay so mind control, create an exoskeleton, turn into someone... let's see what my body wants to do."

Tommy closed his eyes and tried not to think too much, just let it happen, even if he wasn't sure what he was making happen. It was strange, because he couldn't feel a change, but he knew he wasn't the same person anymore, his hands felt softer, his body felt different. He opened his eyes again and looked at Oliver with eyes wide, panic settling in again. "What do I look like?"

"Oh, I don't know. I'm pretty addicted to you," Oliver said.

"You look like you have those full-eyed contacts in, like I saw at Hallowe'en. It'd be more freaky if I didn't know what's going on."

Oliver waited, trying to prepare himself for anything. Seeing Tommy shift shape from a violet version of himself into something totally different was mind-blowing, even though he'd seen Brian turn into animals. But really, it was who Tommy became that really floored him.

"Your mother," Oliver said softly. "You look like your mother."

Tommy jumped off the coach and went to the bathroom, staring at his reflection on top of the sink. "God... that's..." He could barely remember his mother, except for pictures that were etched into his memory. This look had been from a family picture, down to the green sweater.

He saw Oliver's reflection join his, but he couldn't turn around and look away. Instead he leaned back. "We took this picture the last winter we had together," he said softly. "She usually had her hair all done, be the proper wife, but that day, we were just home, she didn't' bother pulling her hair up or style it. Memories and pictures blend together too many times. I don't even know what's a true memory, but I remember this day."

Tommy finally turned around and hugged Oliver. It felt strange. Oliver was much bigger now, taller. It felt wrong, but he stayed there until he could feel his body change again and then Oliver didn't feel so big. "It's a good thing you're addicted to me, because I need you right now. I'm a different color, I'm turning into my mother, and... I need you."
