RP: Dinoland
Who: Sam, G, Emily and Derek
Where: camp site
When: Saturday, June 1, 2013
Summary: They deal with new powers.

Life was surprisingly good in this dimension. After the initial problems, they had all settled in a routine. Even G seemed a little more relaxed now that it was just the four of them.

They were all self-sufficient, and their powers were going a long way to help them. Even Sam, who still didn't enjoy them, had made peace with them and used them. Or maybe it was just easier because they were using against animals and not people. The dinosaurs already had an unfair advantage as far as he was concerned. Morgan's new found power was even more useful. The man could manipulate fire and fire was the one thing that got to the animals faster than anything else.

The fire they had going was one that Morgan had created, and now they could have some dinner while the sun was out. Sam as about to ask G to pass the fruit, but the thought stayed in his head, distracted by a noise.

G liked simple. He was complicated enough without adding to that with a complicated life. Of course, his definition of simple was...unique. But, things were pretty simple by anyone's definition now. They didn't have to worry about anything but their own survival. Food. Shelter. Water. There really wasn't much time to worry about anything else. Except maybe dino-riding. He and Morgan had certainly embraced that idea.

But, there wasn't really anyone to let down or disappoint. Just the four of them watching each others' backs.

And the lack of elegant cuisine certainly didn't bother a man who had spent more of his life living off what he could get than having the luxury of fine dining. Smirking when Sam asked for the fruit, he picked up a single piece and lobbed it at Sam's chest. "Catch, Big Guy."

Sam caught the fruit without thinking. He was so attuned to G that it came natural, but there was still a frown on his face. "What? Are you trying to feed me now? I thought that was my job."

Derek chuckled, but he was watching that little exchange, because these two had always said more with looks than words. "Maybe you two are just so in tune that Callen is reading your mind."

G snorted. "Yeah, no thanks." Just the thought of getting into people's heads made him twitch. Marty's power had been handy, but it was unsettling beyond description. G hated the idea of anyone getting into his head and he didn't particularly enjoy the thought of the reverse, even if it would be useful. "It's not my fault Sam's so easily distracted he forgot he asked for something by the time he finished asking."

Emily raised an eyebrow. "Too late. You two have been reading each others' minds as long as I've known you. It's just more obvious when you're the only ones we have to observe," she teased, winking.

Emily might be teasing, but it was also true. The two of them were a lot more relaxed now that they didn't have to deal with people and their safety. Derek saw that as a sign of trust, not just that he and Emily wouldn't use their knowledge against them, but trust that they could take care of themselves. That was a big compliment from these two. It also meant that Derek got to see a lot more.

"'G, I didn't say anything, but I'm not going to point that out with people around'," Derek said, eying Sam more than Callen. "And I'm paraphrasing since I don't actually read minds, but I'm pretty sure that's what Sam would like to say. Since he can pretty much read your thoughts from the start, you seem to 'actually' be reading minds, I figured I'll put it out there, so we're all aware of what's going on."

"And remind me why I don't like profilers," Sam muttered, and if they were back home, he'd drop it there, but here, it was just the four of them and their powers could come useful. If this helped G and Morgan stay in touch somehow, he wouldn't brush it aside. "He's not wrong, G. I thought about asking, but I didn't ask."

Derek looked at Emily. "And then there was one. One was a glitch, two a coincidence, three is a pattern. I guess we're all get a second one."

G sat glaring, shifting that glare back and forth between all three of them. He really didn't like this idea. He really didn't like this idea. He only wished he were more of the type to live in denial forever. But, as he wasn't. "Great." He sighed and shook his head. At least it was just the four of them. If he slipped while getting the hang of things and answered their thoughts out loud, it wouldn't be a disaster. If he'd gotten this power before, he'd have never spoken for fear of slipping and letting people know what he could do. "I suppose we can see if it works with animals, too. Although, I'm not sure how triceratops translates into English."

"Now that would be handy." Emily chuckled. But, she fell silent a moment later, turning to meet Derek's look. "Have we saved the best for last? It'd be nice to know when these things were going to turn up. We'll all be second guessing and watching for me to do something weird, now."

"Too bad we can't put in requests," G added, huffing softly because there's no way in hell he'd have put anything that meant messing about in people's heads at the top of his list.

"Oh, if we can request powers, I want one that lets me transmute one object into another. I'd never have to be without Louboutins again."

G looked at her for a moment, then chuckled. "If I didn't know she can work, I'd swear she just sounded like your average society girl."

"It's part of her cover. She makes you think she's nothing but a pretty woman and then kicks you ass after a nice verbal whipping." Derek reached out to cup the back of her head and pulled her closer just as he leaned in for a kiss. "It's all right. I haven't taken my eyes off of you for years. We'll see if you can get those Louboutins."

Sam groaned. "And if I didn't know you can work, I might throw up right now. You're more of a girl than she is."

Derek raised an eyebrow. "While we use it for profiling, we do not believe that gender stereotypes empower either gender. Therefore characterizing behavior as 'girlish' is as negative as calling people crazy. That and she will kick your ass if you say that again," he finished with a grin.

"You talk and I hear blah, blah, blah," Sam answered with his own smirk, before turning to G. "Let's stick to people for now. Just in case getting into the mind of animals with chicken's brains turns you stupid or something." Right, still trusting these powers. Not.
