"Yeah?" John asked, biting his lip a little before smirking. "That's good to know. I'll have to remember for the future," he teased, then kissed Brian again.
Sighing softly, he leaned against Brian, just letting his presence support the words John was hearing. He thought this was why he'd been drawn to Brian at first, before he fell hard for the man. Brian had never wanted John to be anyone but John. Oh, sure there was the teasing about being boring and needing more adventure (i.e. sex). But, it was always more about never compromising who he was to become someone else for anyone else...even Brian. "I know we do," he agreed with another sigh, this one less content, more resigned. "I don't know why. It's like, even while I'm trying to show him I'm not that sixteen year old kid who, honestly, had Derek on a bit of a pedestal, I end up feeling just like that kid the more we talk." John shrugged. "We'll figure it out eventually, I guess?"
And this was definitely not something that sixteen year old kid would have ever done. There are no other people like you. Cameron had convinced John his future was to be alone. Derek had convinced him of that, too. John Connor's destiny was to be alone or else he couldn't do what he was supposed to do in defeating Skynet. To have what he'd found with Brian...that was a dream, one he'd thought would always be for everyone but himself. He couldn't help grinning at Brian's version of vows. He really wouldn't change Brian, ever. He loved this irreverent, caring man. Pure and simple.
Since traditional was optional in this relationship, John skipped ahead to kissing. When he pulled back, he was still grinning. He glanced down at the ring still in his hand, not sure he could equal what Brian had said, but still full of promises of his own.
"Let's see if I remember how that went," he said, looking back up at Brian, sobering some. "I, John Connor, take you, Brian Kinney, to be my hot, incorrigible lover. I promise to be true to you always and to make sure there are good times without getting lost in the bad, to love and honor and occasionally remember my age. I will still never ask you to change who you are because who you are is the man I love." Taking Brian's hand, he slid the second ring onto his finger. "I love you, Brian Kinney." His grin returned. "And I promise to someday be better with the words to tell you how much you mean to me. But, will make it up to you in other, possibly even less boring, ways."
