"Oh, I totally agree with him o the boring part," he said, chuckling. "You need someone who can act your age to make sure you enjoy life. Although you're starting to get old. I like the teenager years so much more."
Brian nodded. "That sounds good, and yes, thinking about Derek and sex is wrong, since he's determined to fuck women. Now, if he finally understood about the joy of dick, I'd have no problem thinking about him and sex, or you know asking him to join us." He couldn't help it, because John was such a teenager when it came to sex and Derek. There was no way that he wouldn't make fun of him.
He took a sip of the champagne, and kissed John with a smile "However, tonight is not for threesome. I was thinking about what you said when you told me about Derek, about names, about him," he said, sighing, because he didn't understand this need they had to discuss a man that didn't exist anymore, arguing over a future that would never happen. "I've never asked you for anything, John. Not fidelity, not monogamy, not even forever. It's not me, not what I do, but... I need... I'm going to ask you for something. That man doesn't exist anymore; he's as dead as some of the people we've lost. I'm asking you to make peace with that and accept that people change. You have changed, and I don't really like what I've heard about that man, but I love you."
He shifted slightly, moving just enough that he could look at John, but still keeping him close. "You said that you never want to change me, but you have, just like I've changed you. It's inevitable, but it's a good change. These aren't just words. I'm not selling you something, although I could." Brian was good at selling empty promises, but he was also good at selling reality, and this is exactly what he was doing now. He reached into his pocket and took out a pouch. "Open your hand, Gorgeous."
He opened the velvet pouch and emptied the contents on John's hand. There were two identical rings. It had taken time to find exactly what he wanted. The infinity symbols like John's neckless, the black and gold from the bracelet, inside it had it engraved: JC~BK. "I want you. Not a man who's in charge, not a martyr, not some sort of larger than life Savior of Humankind. I want you, no matter what you choose to do or how you choose to do it, and if you can live with doing things your way and not the way some myth would do them, then we put them on. Not exactly Prince Charming, but I am making an honest man out of you, at least if you want to," he said, echoing words from before they even got together. "And if you don't, I still love you and nothing changes."
