Re: Doug and Maura
"Oh, heavens no! I would never assume. But, if he's in the afterlife applauding my destruction of your clothes, the least he can do is keep me in fashionable shoes." Maura laughed. "I could be content with a nice new suit, however, I'm not picky."
Maura refrained from rolling her eyes. "Oh, let's not get into personal dramas. None of us are immune to that, or do I need to remind you of my very, very sorry personal history from murderous exes to mobster father? That wasn't what I meant, though. I...have a reputation for being cold and untouched by the things I see, the things I do. But, I'm not. I care about every person that comes across my table...or kitchen counter. I hurt when they hurt, but I can't give in to that, or I let them down, let them die."
She smiled. "I'm sure he will." She chuckled, glancing at Savannah and the others. "You might be right about volunteers. I think this is the first I've seen Savannah more than a foot away from TJ for longer than five minutes." Looking back at him, she lay off the teasing about blood and cocked her head in concerned curiosity. "How are you holding up with all this? Not the blood donation, but Travis getting shot."
