"I'll remind them later when the stress wears off," she replied, chuckling. She could use a real meal herself, but that was absolutely going to wait until tomorrow. There was no way she would be up to cooking by the time they got home.
Maura shook her head. "No, I was reminded earlier that just because we think it's our job or duty, we should still have some appreciation for stepping up to do it. So, thank you." She smiled back, pleased despite herself. "You might, hm? Then my work here might just be done." Following his gaze, she watched the kitchen window in silence for a moment. Then she sighed and looked away, shaking her head again. "Not easy, no. But a thousand times easier than having to tell TJ he died would have been. But, thank you."
