Re: The Hammonds, Savannah, others
"Of course you did and helped me in the meantime," she said, unaffected by his words. She knew better; he knew better; discussing the point further wouldn't really change things.
Doug nodded. "I can hold on to it, if you want. I promise I won't even see what you've got there."
Savannah almost laughed, but instead she simply snorted. "TJ, sweetie, that's the easiest promise I'll ever make, because I'm not leaving you until Travis is awake and ready to smack you for even thinking it. I am not leaving you alone," she said, slowly, making sure that each word sank in.
Elaine had been watching. It was strange, because part of her knew that it should be her playing Savannah's part, but it all seemed so irrelevant and stupid. Travis would survive or not, things would get better or not. Talking and promising things wouldn't change the outcome, and yet TJ seemed to be reacting well to her. Then again, she wouldn't have promised never to leave him alone. She had never had the time, and Savannah had a family, three kids, two dogs and random family and yet she was promising. It was mindboggling, as much as the fact that she was giving orders. To her and Bud. It was insane.
Savannah did have more orders, but she kept smiling. "Doug, get a bucket of water. Elaine, Bud, find some detergent, spray and paper towel. We'll bleach everything later, just in case we have a visit. We don't want the cops to smell it." She took TJ's hand. "You're going to get washed up and change your clothes and then you will help me clean up. Or you can clean and I can call Robert. Come on, we have things to do before we go see Travis."
