Oh, this wasn't going anywhere John wanted to get too detailed about in front of everyone. He needed to think of something that would bring Derek back to the present.
"Shh, I'm not going to fix her. She's not here. Focus on me. We're not in that war, Derek. Come back from it. It was a long time ago. She's not here. The enemy isn't here."
"John-" Marty began, but John waved for him to stay quiet.
John had no idea what he was doing. He was just talking, trying to pull Derek back from the past. But, no one else here was going to be able to do it. Maybe Nell, but he needed to reach Derek now. He was beginning to have an idea of what happened and if he was right, Derek was going to hate himself when he stepped back from whatever ledge he was standing on the edge of at the moment.
"Derek, listen to me. That was a long time ago. Cameron's in another world. Remember my sixteenth birthday? Eating ice cream in the park? And the time we spent with Martin at Presidio? We came through the rift, remember? The ranch in Arizona, you have a dog, Nikita. And, there's Nell, the annoying redhead you like talking to a lot. It's over, Derek. Cameron can't hurt anyone here. Stay focused on me and remember where you are now. Remember the boyfriend older than my mother and a bunch of crazy people my age who've made themselves our friends. That's where we are. Not with Cameron. With Nell and Brian, Alexis, Tim, Sean, Troy. Look at me and remember. Come back to me in the here and now, Derek. Come away from those old memories. Just breathe and focus on me."
