RP: Deeks, Travis, Alexis
Who: Deeks and Travis; Deeks and Alexis
Where: Safe house
When: Thursday, May 16, 2013
Summary: Deeks talks to both Travis and Alexis about powers

Alexis had been thinking about her power more and more. She'd always seen it as a defensive one, something to keep her safe, but things had changed at the school, with Derek pushing her to do more. Still, she hadn't pushed herself out of her comfort zone. She had learned to make things and people she was touching invisible, but Dom had said that she could do a lot more.

With Callen gone, Alexis knew that she had to go to Deeks. In fact, that made things even easier. While she had found a truce of sorts with Callen, she'd always liked and respected Deeks, even more after he'd been willing to help as her second. That didn't mean that she would just talk to him.

She had done her research, looking into the comic books of this dimension, because in the end they were as good as any source material. After that, she had looked into light and physics. It wasn't until she was satisfied that she knew as much as possible before she approached Deeks.

"Hey, can I talk to you?" They were training, they were always training, but she had told Derek that she needed to discuss her power with Deeks. "We even get to miss ten minutes of Derek's torture... I mean training," she said, laughing. "I want to talk to you about my power. I've been doing research, weird research if you think about physics and comic books as being read side by side. So how would you feel about invisibility shields? I don't know how wide, but I don't think it's really that different than what I'm doing now."

"Of course, always time for one of my favorite redheads," Marty replied with a wink, laughing along with her description of Derek's training. Some might consider Derek's training tough, though he knew she was teasing. But, Marty had been with Savannah through Sam's modified SEAL training before anyone else.

"Weird research is out normal. If we actually saved our search history, anyone looking at it would want to have all of us committed, I'm sure. But, sure. Go for it. It sounds like the next logical step from what you've been doing with extending the power to anyone you touch. Who needs Star Trek when you can create your own cloaking system," he teased. "No, seriously, you have the go ahead for that. Let's make some time to work on it together one-on-one for a bit and when we see how well you do, we can surprise the others by taking your skill into group powers training."

"One of your favorite redheads? Wow, a cop who can be diplomatic. I didn't know that was possible," she answered, smiling. "They must veto it in Homicide."

Alexis chuckled. "If we saved our search history, people would think that we're all teenagers with ADD and never bother us. You know unless they knew about superpowers." She nodded. "Well, I'm not sure about our own cloaking device. I was thinking a little smaller. It'll show us if Dom's right about his idea that I'm affecting light, because if I am, then this shouldn't be really different than cloaking more than a few people at a time. If it's not, we can start thinking about some new theory about how I achieve invisibility. My feeling is that he's right, because Eliot would see me through even if I was invisible, but we'll see. And look, it didn't even take us ten minutes. Derek will be so glad of that."

"Nah, we're just smoother and cooler in Narcotics." Marty grinned.

"Anti-social teenagers likely to shoot kids in the lunchroom, maybe." There were a lot of things Marty knew were searched for through proxies provided by John and Eric that were not so innocent or ignorable. Chuckling, he nodded. "Start smaller, think big. But, if Dom thinks it's related to light, I'd be inclined to agree with him. We'll see how it goes."

Laughing as she headed back off to rejoin Derek's training, Marty decided to take advantage of being separated to have another talk about powers he'd been meaning to have. Heading over to where Travis and Thomas were working, he motioned to Travis to join him. "Thomas and Doug can work together for a little bit. Walk with me." He led Travis around to the other side of the house, far enough only Renko stood even a slight chance of overhearing them and putting the noise of the work on the machine between them and Renko for added interference. "I wanted to have a chat about your power and some extra training. I also wanted to talk about how widely known what you can do is. I've kept you to working with our unit in training. Anyone outside the four of us know?"

Travis was with TJ and Doug. It was normal for the three of them to train together, when Deeks was doing something, so the comment from Deeks didn't really affect their training. It was interesting to see how often Doug was 'Doug' and not 'Douglas' for Deeks. Even more interesting, it was watching Doug not complain. He didn't think it was diplomacy since Doug didn't complain in private either, but it wasn't trust either. he'd have to figure that out, but that was something for later.

"Unless you told someone else, no one but us knows. I wasn't exactly eager to tell people that I can be inside their heads." No matter what TJ said, knowing things and getting front row tickets with full emotional background was not the same thing. "I've worked with TJ. I'm pretty good at figuring out what triggers it and at doing it on purpose. I know all about the next step of seeing these memories, ad that's one scary proposition. You mess with people's memories and you destroy who they are. Having said that, what do you have in mind?"

Marty nodded. "Nope. No one. Just wanted to confirm. Didn't know if you would tell Maura or not with her living there. But, there are plenty of steps in between triggering it on purpose and messing with their memories. And, man, do I ever sound like Callen when he said something similar to me. Anyway, what I'm offering is one-on-one training you and me to really get into what you are capable of in a safer environment than working with Thomas. You're going to be too cautious working with him because you don't want to hurt him and I have a bit of experience in this particular type of training."

There was a bit of a risk involved. Working together like this Travis was going to find out what Marty could do. It wasn't possible to really work these mental powers without revealing themselves to each other in some way. And, only Savannah, Robert, and Sean knew exactly how far beyond an empath Marty truly was. Others might suspect. But they didn't know. Travis would know.

"It'd be outside training so no one starts to question why we're working alone. A couple nights a week. I'll come to you, since there's only Maura who doesn't know at your place and Oliver and Tommy both at mine."

"She doesn't need to know," he said with a shrug. He might create his own family, but he wasn't about to adopt everyone that came with that family. He certainly had no intention of telling TJ's parents. "Plenty of steps and I'd really like to avoid all of them, man. I mean, I know what you're about to say and how much that's not possible, but I'd love not to be able to get inside's people's heads."

Travis didn't have to think about it. He knew that he needed to practice and he knew that he would never put TJ in harm's way. Still, there were questions to ask. "We can, but are you sure? You're not an empath. No way, man. I know the reaction. I've watched Doug for months. You had no clue that it was TJ and Doug the day of the weed brownies." He had never asked or investigated what Deeks was, but that didn't mean that he bought the story, not when he'd seen what TJ and Doug could do. "We can do it, if you're okay with it."

"Trust me, you have no idea how much I can sympathize with that sentiment." Marty snorted. He still disliked his powers, even if he was getting to the point of using them when he needed to, despite those feelings. He knew Savannah thought was he could do was awesome. But, it wasn't her power. She knew what he'd done, but she didn't know. Marty would never like what he could do to people, no matter how much he wound up having to use his power.

"I'm sure." It didn't surprise him that Travis had figured out as much as he had, either. The man wasn't one the departments top detectives for nothing. "If I'd wanted to, I could have found out it was them easily. I didn't want to. I didn't have to. You should know what you're up against, if you train with me. So, I can demonstrate, if you want. But, yeah, I'm very sure. The chances you can do the same kind of harm to me as you could Thomas are pretty low, not because of what I can do, but because of the way I've been trained myself. I had G there to push me when I really didn't want to use this power, either." He shrugged. "You need the same training. I'm the best man here for the job."

"I'm guessing that I'll get a clue soon enough," he answered, because really it had to be a mental power at this point, and he wasn't sure he wanted to know just how much Deeks could do. Fuck, these powers sucked.

"Yes, but Doug always knows. I can't even explain it. I just know when he's feeling something different, because of the way he reacts, but I know he's always paying attention to things out of the ordinary. I think that comes with what they did." Really they could discuss the differences in powers, but in the end, that was irrelevant. "All right, so me and you. Let's see what we can do together."
