RP: Eliot/Savannah
Who: Eliot/Savannah
When: 5-15-13
Where: During break
Summary: Eliot and Savannah catch up some more.

Eliot had had a chance to talk to Savannah on the plane, but now that they were somewhat settled in their new home and routine and he'd had time to observe, he wanted to chat with her again. He wasn't exactly thrilled to be back, to put it mildly, but he wasn't going to ruffle any feathers unless it involved Eve. He still didn't trust Vance even a tiny bit, and the loss of the four mains was a loss of some people he could trust to care about what happened to those in the group. He didn't have a problem with Deeks or Derek, he just didn't know them in a leadership capacity to make the determination that they wouldn't blindly follow Vance's orders.

During break, Eliot left Nate and April with a squeeze of April's hand to find Savannah. Knots of folks sat around, most with their spouses or friends. Some of the new people seemed out of place, like they weren't comfortable yet. Eliot knew from experience that it wasn't easy to break into this group, because for all the talk of team and family, they could be very exclusionary.

"Hey, mind if I join you?" Eliot asked Savannah when Deeks went off to speak with someone. He crouched down, resting his forearms on his knees, gracing her with a smile.

Savannah was back at training. It was the second day, but it was good being back with her unit. Still she ended up taking more breaks, because she was breast feeding, but when she wasn't, she was with her unit. Marty stopped by long enough to make sure that she wasn't overdoing it, which she wasn't. Of course she wasn't. If she did what Derek said with enthusiasm, then she was following orders, not overdoing it.

She was about to go to Oliver to talk about training with the arch, when Eliot arrived. "Sure, have a seat in my wonderful living room," she said laughing. "Or you know, just make sure you don't sit on a mine. The latter is a very good thing." She say down herself. "If ask if you're glad to be back, but I know better."

Eliot's smile turned crooked. "You do know better, but it don't mean I'm not glad to see you again."

He shifted, getting more comfortable. "Are you doing okay? I'm not talking about with Deeks or the kids, but with Callen and them UA. You've probably been asked this a bunch, but humor me."

Savannah was all smiles and enthusiasm, but it was her adopted parents who were in another dimension. She was the center cog that connected the spokes of the group, which is one of the reasons why with her 'dead' Eliot's family had chosen to leave. Still, it couldn't be easy being the one who always reached out and maybe not getting anyone reaching out in return.

"I'll admit I miss Callen and Sam already, since I knew I could trust them to do the right thing," he said. He was not pleased with Derek and Emily being gone, either, but that wasn't the topic right now. "I was surprised to get Vance's email, especially since he told us in no certain terms that we were cut off and threatened to kill us if we did anything to draw attention to you guys. Then again, that man changes his tune on a whim; one minute anyone with powers hurting people is our responsibility to deal with, the next they should be ignored and left to do their thing, and it's your own fault if you didn't somehow magically know this."

Eliot was bitching, something he'd told himself he wasn't going to do. He wanted to keep under the radar, protect Eve, follow orders, and wait to find the first dimension they could settle in, since this one wasn't an option any longer for whatever reason.

"I'm glad to see you, too, despite the circumstance," she answered with her own smile. "I missed you and April."

She shrugged. "I'm doing as well as expected. They are missing and we need to find them. It's not easy. If their disappearance weren't enough we have Jenna's death. It's not... It's not easy, but it's not like we have much of a choice. We keep fighting."

Savannah snorted. "I might have to record this and see what they say when we find them, because I don't think anyone believes that you trust Sam." Eliot missing them was probably the last thing they'd expect. "Since I know how well you communicate, I'll forgive the implication that my husband won't do the right thing," she added chuckling. This showed just how much Eliot didn't get them. G and Sam would do what was necessary. Marty would do what was right. "Or even that Derek and Emily didn't do the right thing."

She looked around at where Vance was talking to Brian. "He didn't say anything about threads, or even seeing you, and whoever was on the mission was tight lipped, but he never changes his mind on a whim. There is always a reason. G once said that no matter how far ahead they planned, Vance was always ten steps ahead. If you're here, there is a reason, and it's certainly not because he missed you. His goal is always the safety if the people here, his responsibility. Ours is to follow orders. You don't have to know what he's thinking." She thought back to the many discussions and arguments with Sam and G. "It's not a democracy. You don't have to understand the man in charge; you have to follow orders."

There was no way to know what anyone was thinking or what their agenda was, and she was sure that there were hidden ones. Someone like Brian had made it clear that he wanted to go back go his son and girlfriend. She had no idea what the Hammonds wanted. "I think in the end it's about trust. You just have to trust that they will do what's best for the group, and not just the people in charge, but everyone."

"I know you keep going, but sometimes I think these thing are harder on you than anyone, since you put yourself out there to care for the others affected without asking for it in return." Eliot hadn't kept inviting her to join them only because he didn't trust Vance. He cared about her well-being and deserved to enjoy her dream life.

"I don't have to like people to trust them. They're not interchangeable words." Eliot shrugged. "They were also in charge, after Vance, then came the others, and we were talking about them in particular since they're your direct family."

He looked around. "There are plenty others here I trust, and following orders has never been a problem contrary to what people believe. I've always followed them, 'cept once and that was because I was trying to protect Renko. We got that cleared up afterward. I won't ever trust Vance, but that ain't something we need to agree on and it won't effect things. Eve's the number one priority, and as long as she's safe, we're all good."

"I've never really seen it like that," she answered, always surprised by how people saw things. "I care for others, but I can't really think of a single person that doesn't care back, unless you count Nick or Sheldon, but that's different. They might not care like I do, but they can in their own way, and really that's all I ask."

Savannah smiled. "And I never said that you didn't like him. I said you didn't trust him, but if that's not the case, then it's my mistake." She shook her head. "That's not true though. G and Derek were in charge. Sam might have been in charge of security, but he was never in charge if you know what I mean. He went out of his way not to be in charge. He certainly wasn't the type of second that Derek is. Derek is like a solid wall between people and Marty, or even Vance. Sam did his job and let G and Derek handle stuff."

She followed his gaze. "There are a lot of people here, you don't know." If anything, there were less people she trusted now, because of the Hammonds, and the new people who didn't understand yet what was going on. Savannah looked at him. "Mike? You mean with Nick? Because you weren't protecting Mike. You were protecting Nick, because you didn't trust Sam's methods. But it wasn't the only time. Like when you refused to do SEAL training before your eyesight went away and by the way, the new old look does wonders,' she said, giggling. "Or when you picked Jenna who was out of leave as your second."

She stopped, realizing that she was standing up for Sam and G when there was no reason to. They wouldn't have wanted her to. "I'm not here to defend them or you, Eliot. No one follows orders 100% of the times. We have all made mistakes. We have all disobeyed orders. Okay, maybe not Sam, because I'm pretty sure he bleeds Navy if you cut him. I don't think it even matters anymore, because the team is a very different team from the one you left. New people, new dynamics, new friends. Everything is new and you only have a brief time to decide if you trust them or not. And Vance? You can say that you don't trust him, but you do, or you wouldn't be here. Part of you knows that he's doing what's right or you'd have stayed where you were. He has no reason to welcome back an infant and two people who have made it clear that the team comes second to their family, which goes contrary to everything they believe in. So if you're here, you have to believe that he's gave you a chance for your own good or you'd be stupid to return."

Eliot chuckled. "You have a memory like an elephant. I know I was protecting Renko, not Nick from Sam. I didn't even step in until Sam told Nick to go and stand by Renko. Jenna had clearance from April and no one said I couldn't choose her. The other I don't even remember, but if it was before I lost my eyesight, I didn't want any part of anything to do with ICIS. I believe I recall you saying the same thing about when you first arrived."

Eliot was amused, and thankful. "You're a great person, you know that? Then again, you do have a lot of experience in dealing with, I think it was 'emotionally stunted men', or something like it."

Savannah laughed. "I don't know about elephants, but I tend to remember things, especially things that are connected to people. Now, ask me about history class and I don't remember any of that."

She let it go about Mike and Nick, because it didn't matter anymore. It was done, Sam was gone and Nick was dead. "As I said, none of us followed orders 100% of the times. If we had, things had gone a lot smoother. At this point, the past doesn't really matter. we have to move forward and prepare for whatever is coming."

She smiled. "I don't know about that, but feel free to say it." She didn't think G would agree, not after the way they had parted, not after she has involuntarily betrayed their trust by not sharing about the pregnancy. "I get it wrong to, Eliot. One thing I did get right, no one cares about food at parties. Now, I'll have someone to help me plan for them."

"Yep, and that's what I intend to do. April and me are kinda flipping out about heading to this primitive dimension with Eve. But if going there is less dangerous than staying here, that's saying something," Eliot said.

"If you didn't get it wrong sometimes, you wouldn't be human," Eliot said, lightly squeezing her shoulder. "Now, about the food - how terrible has it been? I'll admit I had some recurring nightmares about everyone starving without me around."

And that right there was why Eliot got in trouble. He assumed that people knew things, and spoke openly, not understanding that Vance didn't share unless he had to. Now, she could go alone and betray Marty or pretend. The choice was easy.

"Less dangerous? We've always planned to go after them, since they disappeared back in December. It wasn't a matter of being dangerous. We don't leave anyone behind. Vance won't leave those four people. If there's something else-" She shrugged. "He hasn't shared. Then again, I didn't know about the threats or cutting you off, which is why I emailed you in the first place."

The rest was so much easier to deal with and she snorted. "Let me see. We hunted feral cats, cooked them on open fires with no tools and had them for dinner. Trust me, we had the nightmares. All the food is cooked here, on open fires or ashes, dinner is prepared at lunch time and eaten cold in the car. The kids are the only one getting decent food, because of all the baby and toddler foods. Lots of protein powder to help, vitamins, fruit. Still I've been tempted to steal the lasagna meal from the twins."

"That'd downright sacralegieous to do that to a person's stomach," Eliot played up his being aghast. "You and me are gonna have to fix that, at parties at least."
