"I've never really seen it like that," she answered, always surprised by how people saw things. "I care for others, but I can't really think of a single person that doesn't care back, unless you count Nick or Sheldon, but that's different. They might not care like I do, but they can in their own way, and really that's all I ask."
Savannah smiled. "And I never said that you didn't like him. I said you didn't trust him, but if that's not the case, then it's my mistake." She shook her head. "That's not true though. G and Derek were in charge. Sam might have been in charge of security, but he was never in charge if you know what I mean. He went out of his way not to be in charge. He certainly wasn't the type of second that Derek is. Derek is like a solid wall between people and Marty, or even Vance. Sam did his job and let G and Derek handle stuff."
She followed his gaze. "There are a lot of people here, you don't know." If anything, there were less people she trusted now, because of the Hammonds, and the new people who didn't understand yet what was going on. Savannah looked at him. "Mike? You mean with Nick? Because you weren't protecting Mike. You were protecting Nick, because you didn't trust Sam's methods. But it wasn't the only time. Like when you refused to do SEAL training before your eyesight went away and by the way, the new old look does wonders,' she said, giggling. "Or when you picked Jenna who was out of leave as your second."
She stopped, realizing that she was standing up for Sam and G when there was no reason to. They wouldn't have wanted her to. "I'm not here to defend them or you, Eliot. No one follows orders 100% of the times. We have all made mistakes. We have all disobeyed orders. Okay, maybe not Sam, because I'm pretty sure he bleeds Navy if you cut him. I don't think it even matters anymore, because the team is a very different team from the one you left. New people, new dynamics, new friends. Everything is new and you only have a brief time to decide if you trust them or not. And Vance? You can say that you don't trust him, but you do, or you wouldn't be here. Part of you knows that he's doing what's right or you'd have stayed where you were. He has no reason to welcome back an infant and two people who have made it clear that the team comes second to their family, which goes contrary to everything they believe in. So if you're here, you have to believe that he's gave you a chance for your own good or you'd be stupid to return."
