"Yeah, I know. And I get that much. I couldn't exactly explain myself, either, which is why I let it drop. But, I was getting dismissed by a lot of people then, or it felt like it at the time. So, it annoyed me." John shrugged, then let Vance's arm settle around his shoulders. "I got over it. Brian will thank you for reminding me of the young part," he added, chuckling. "I've studied physics and alternate dimensions. I've got a pretty good idea how many possibilities there are, even though I can't always see all of them. It's why I'm not making a decision on home, yet. It's been more than two years for me, a year for Derek. With all both sides are capable of and how much things have changed, who knows where things stand. I might not even be needed anymore."
John was worried about more than just Dom doing something stupid by pushing too much. He'd been the kid who lost a parent and was raised by the other, who got obsessive with their goal. He remembered that look on his mom's face when she started to realize how much of the mission he was internalizing and making part of himself. This is our life, right? No, John, that's our mission. This is our life. Hopefully, it wouldn't be sixteen years before Dom looked at Blaze and woke up. It had really been too late for John. "Go directly to the C.O.? What would Derek say?" he teased before nodding. Wasn't like he didn't do just that all the time. Except in certain cases, John almost always went directly to Vance. "Yeah, I will."
He watched what he could see of training for a moment, letting the thought of Vance's order and the reason he might need to follow it die. Poor choice of words to think, but he'd lost enough people he cared about. "Sounds good. I shouldn't need much more than a day to break them down, especially if I get Nell to help with wiping the data. Speaking of the new people and thinking ahead, what about Brian and his power. He doesn't seem to be going through what you are. Might be manifesting differently or a different power. Have you talked to him about it? Do you need me to work with him on it now that we have others in the house?
"Also, I need to ask you for a favor. Kind of a big one, but it's important to me. For Derek."
