RP: Tamira and many
Who: Tamira Johnson, Leon Vance, Brian O'Conner, Marty Deeks, John Connor, Sean Hanna, probably a few others I'll list as we go
Where: Washington, MD to Castiac, CA
When: Friday, May 3, 2013 -- morning PDT/noon-ish EDT
Summary: Tamira isn't Alice and this isn't Wonderland. Where's a SEAL when you need one?

When Tamira Johnson picked up her purse and headed for the main doors of the Veterans Administration building, the only thing on her mind was catching the BBQ truck before it moved on to another part of the city. In other words, all she expected was lunch as she stepped through the doors into a surprisingly bright afternoon. Once her eyes adjusted to the glare, she realized she was getting more than lunch.

She might not be getting lunch at all.

The food truck was no longer parked in front of the building. For that matter, when she turned around, she was standing in front of an entirely different building than the one she'd stepped out of a few seconds ago. None of the office buildings on the block looked the same, either, and there were a good third fewer people around in general.

What the heck was going on?

Taking out her cell, she tried to dial her sister's number, but there was no service. And that didn't make any sense at all. When her daughter had gone away to college, Tamira had made sure she had the plan with the best coverage in D.C., even if it was a little more expensive, just so she could be sure the kids would be able to reach her if there was ever a need.

Seeing that at least there was still a bus stop at the corner, she determined to go home and see if things made anymore sense. She had to be lost, somehow. But, she'd lived in this city for more than forty years. If she was lost, then something had to be wrong with her. Maybe she should go to the hospital, instead? Yes, that's what she would do. She could take this bus and transfer to one that went by the hospital.

Decision made, Tamira crossed the street and sat down to wait for the bus.

Leon wished that they could work, and by that he meant real work, with offices and computers, although at this point, going back to the safe house would be a step in the right direction. As it were, they were at the club, training with limited resources.

He was training with the rest since it was still early, when he stopped moving, almost tripping as the familiar sensation caught with him. With the passage of time, the headaches had passed and the information had increased, but he never really had the time to study the power. Dimensional rifts were not as common as one might think.

Concentrating, he zeroed in on the exact location. Only one person, but all the way in the east coast. They'll have to travel and fast.

Brian wasn't expecting the Director to just stop and he reached out to steady them both instead of running into him. Knocking the man in charge over was not the smoothest move in the history of the world...or worlds, as the case may be. But, as soon as his fingers curled around Vance's shoulder, intense, shooting pain ripped through Brian's skull.

"Fuck!" Pressing the heels of both hands to his eyes, he crouched down before he could fall down from the sudden sense of vertigo that accompanied the pain. He'd never had migraine headaches in his life. But, he could well imagine, in that moment, exactly what one felt like. The idea of light and sound was the least appealing thing he could think of. He wasn't sure he'd ever heard of this sensation of being pulled out of your skin. Still, that's what it felt like. It was like...it was like being too close to a blackhole and trying not to get sucked in, he thought. He could almost feel a hole in space pulling at him while he took a deep breath and tried not to pass out.

Leon's attention as he stopped concentrating on that tiny pull in DC drifted toward one of their newest arrival. He crouched next to the man, before looking at Isles. "Doctor." Just a word, before he was getting up again, this time going to John.

"Time to find someone else," he whispered. "Get me cameras in DC. Vermont Avenue by McPherson Square." He let the young man do what he needed to do, while he had orders to give. "Robert, Troy, you need to get ready to fly out." He finally moved close to Deeks. "One person in DC. You know how many people there are federal employees, agents, even foreign spies. Until we know more, be careful. We'll send information as we get it."

Marty took in everyone's movements quickly as he nodded his understanding to Vance.

Dr. Isles was kneeling in front of O'Conner, trying to coax the man into letting her see his eyes. Whatever was the matter with him, O'Conner wasn't having anything to do with her little flashlight, though he seemed willing enough to tell her what hurt.

John was moving off to sit in a corner on his laptop, presumably starting his search for whoever had come through, while Robert and Troy went to get ready.

Considering for a moment, Marty headed toward Derek.

"Retrieval in D.C.," he said lowly. "I'm taking my unit, plus Robert and Troy." Marty wanted to be careful with Thomas' arm, even if the younger man was back to training now because the sprain had been relatively minor. But, not knowing who they were picking up, Marty wanted to make sure he not only had Travis, who could back him up, but two people who knew D.C. and the people there fairly well, who could blend in with the politcal types Marty and Travis couldn't. If there was anyone better suited for that than the Hammond brothers, Marty would eat his gun. And if the arrival happened to be from their dimension, seeing them would make the impossible story they were going to have to swallow all the more real.

The first thing Troy had thought when he heard the name was: shit! Yes, not overly complicated, but still a pain in the ass, because this was Sean's mother, and he didn't know how she'd react to a few things, like her ex being with a man, but currently MIA, a dead daughter, a grandchild, and her son married to a guy. Okay, so maybe the last part was slightly more important to him, but he understood that she might disagree. Still, he didn't want her to freak out so he'd asked Deeks if he could talk to her once she was out of the streets and on the plane.

He had to wait until they had taken off (because it wasn't like she would be given a chance not to join them), took the ring off (after previous threats to throw people out of the plane if they mentioned the relationship), and went to the back of the plane.

"Hi, I'm Troy," he said, sitting in the seat in front of her. "I'm a friend of Sean. We're taking you to see him. That's... that's the easy part to explain. The rest is going to make you think that I'm nuts. We're in a different dimension. When we cross over, we get powers, like in the comic books, only cooler." He looked at one of the water bottles and stretched his hand as the bottle came to him. He didn't need to do that, but theatrics helped. "Would you like some? It's closed, not that many people would care, but anyone close to Sam is probably just as paranoid."

Tamira's head was pounding like it had the few nights she'd let Monique convince her they needed a sister's drinking night. But, at the mention of her son, her thinking became remarkably clear. And, her eyes narrowed.

This young man wasn't that far off about some of Sam's paranoia rubbing off on the people around him. Of course, that was also why simply saying he was a friend of Sean's didn't put her at ease. Her son had been missing for two years. His father for two and a half. And what about Jenna? This young man said they were taking her to see 'him', not 'them'. The part about powers and dimensions barely even registered. But, she'd read plenty of strange things that afternoon when she managed to find a bookstore with a periodicals section. And she knew there were illusionsists and hollywood people who could do tricks to make you think objects were floating. So, that was very unimpressive.

"No, thank you. I would like to see my children." And their father. But, she couldn't imagine Sam letting this kind of thing happen if he was with the kids, the way it sounded like he might be if this strange young man knew him.

If he knew Sam.

Troy looked at Deeks for a moment and then sighed. "I'm sorry, but that won't be possible. Sean is back home and he'll be very happy to see you, but Jenna ... She passed away on February 9th, trying to rescue another member of our team."

He opened the bottle and took a sip, before offering the bottle again. "Look, I know how hard this is to swallow. When I got here, I woke up in an interrogation room, with a guy my age, telling me what I'm telling you. It was Sean and I thought he was on crack, but here is the long version anyway. There were secret experiments that opened dimensional rifts. The first person to be sucked in was Vance. The name should probably tell you something. Sam arrived with Callen, then others from his team, including that man over there who looks like Shaggy. He's currently in charge, because the people in charge including Sam were sucked in into another dimension, which is why Sean will be very happy to see you. You are all the family he has left at the moment," he said with a soft smile. This wasn't the time to talk about weddings and extended families. If anything, it made things harder.

"It doesn't really matter if you think I'm crazy. You'll see Sean as soon as we land."

"What?" Two years, one month, one week, two...maybe...hours, and who knew how many minutes or seconds now that she'd been unconscious for some unknown length of time. That's how long she'd been looking for her kids and not once had she ever thought they were dead. That she might not find them, yes, but never...

"Hard to swallow? Hard to swallow? You people play your games, drug me, kidnap me. Now you're telling me you're a friend of my son's whom nobody has heard from in two years, my daughter is dead. Names are very easy to throw around. Ask anyone in Washington. A name doesn't mean you know the person. And it's very convenient to say a person was here, but was taken away." Tamira sat up straighter and stared at the young man before her. "So, you'll have to forgive me if I find all of this a little crazy, to borrow your word. Ludicrous, insane, and sadistically cruel to use my own."

The blonde referred to as 'Shaggy' moved into the seat next to hers. Looking at him, Tamira had to wonder if they thought she was stupid. This was the man in charge? This young, floppy-haired surfer boy? "Ma'am, you know Sam. You know how private he is. I was the new guy on the team when he and G disappeared. I didn't know he even had kids until just before then. Something came up and he told a story about how when his little girl started school, he tailed her school bus every day for a month to make sure she was safe. My partner and I looked at G because we couldn't believe Sam had not just a kid, but kids, plural. The man just nodded and said 'kids' before going to back his partner up. These aren't just names. These are men I've come to admire greatly over the time I've known them, so much so I would name my own children after them. Now, I can only imagine half the things going through your mind right now. But, I swear to you as both a cop and a father, that if there had been any way to get your children back to you before now, it would have been done. As much as he was grateful for the time he got to spend with them that he missed while they were growing up, Sam never would have kept them here if he had the choice. He stayed away to protect them all these years; he wouldn't knowingly endanger them now if he didn't have the choice."

"And he didn't have the choice because this is...another dimension?" Tamira didn't want to believe any of it. If she did, that would mean her baby girl was truly gone and she couldn't believe that. But, this man didn't speak like a man who knew of Sam, but one who knew him, as well as any of the other guys on his teams ever had, at least the ones not Callen.

"Yes."

"You promise my son is the first person I see when we land?"

"Yes."

"Alright." She turned to look back at this friend of her son's. "So you tell me the rest of it. Super powers and alternate dimensions don't explain military planes and covert ops. You said secret experiments. What exactly is going on?"

"No, they don't. The secret experiment wasn't as successful as they thought. Random people with superpowers started to arrive and an executive order was signed. We had to join a federal agencies or considered enemy of the state. Vance was in charge," Troy said, still wondering if he should point out that after they landed, it would still take ours for her to see Sean.

"Very few people inside the government know of our existence, but when we became too dangerous, they attacked us. That was in December of 2011. We had plenty of losses, too many, but some of us survived thanks to Callen and Sam's training, some of us were lucky to have friends who helped us," he continued. "I didn't mean to sound callous or dismissive, ma'am. I'm sorry of that's how it sounded. They mean a lot to us."

He shook his head. "Never mind about that. Let's go back to the story. We have been on the run since then, moving all over the country. Vance thought ahead and hid money. It's how we have been able to stay on the run and afford-" He waved a hand around the plane. "Now, we collect people who just arrive, because the alternative is that the government will find them and most likely kill them."

He looked at Deeks for a moment. "I guess that's it, at least the short version. You'll get more when we reach a safe location. Oh there is something else, since you weren't impressed with the bottle and you look like Jenna when you look so unimpressed." He got up and extended a hand in her direction. "If you get up, I'll show you something a lot cooler."

Government conspiracies were somehow an easier thought than alternate dimensions and super powers. But, the thought her children had been under attack from what was...not their own government...well, by this point, Tamira was half-accepting all this in her head and no matter the truth was, this was the most solid lead she'd had to the whereabouts of Sean and Jenna in two years. Her first reaction was to find them and hug and make sure they were alright.

Yet, if all this was true, then Jenna wasn't alright and wouldn't be again.

"Apology accepted. And it wasn't that you sounded callous or dismissive. But, anyone can name drop. Go to a charity fundraiser and you'll hear a lot of people drop a lot of names and half of them have never even been in the same room before."

"Names are currency," another young, dark haired man interjected almost lazily.

Tamira nodded her agreement. It wasn't what she did. But, she saw enough of it done at work. Still, there was nothing to be gained in belaboring the point and her gut was telling her these men didn't mean her any harm, regardless of the truth about her family's whereabouts. So, she took the young man, Troy's, hand and stood up, smiling a little because they'd always said Sean got his father's looks and his mother's spirit, while Jenna was Daddy's little girl who looked like her mother. "Now you sound just like Sean," she told him, "always wanting to show off what he'd learned."

Troy snorted. "I'm not interested, unless they are the names of basketball players, or football players, or baseball players... you see a trend here," he said, laughing. "Not really interested in politics. Now, basketball, we can talk all you like, and possibly more than you ever want to know."

He looked at her and grinned. "Me and Sean are born a day apart, similar personalities, but he's totally the patient one." He could have done this without holding her hand or even standing up, but he didn't want to freak her out. Instead, he had both of them floating, not fast and not far, but enough that they were floating. "I learned to do this, because of Sean. He said that I was walking on her after my first flying lesson, and I thought about how cool that sounded, and this totally happened. These powers are so awesome."

The dark-haired young man who'd spoken snorted, but didn't say anything further. Tamira, on the other hand, simply smiled. "So, if I were to say Trevor Ariza, Alex Ovechkin, Ian Desmond, and Kirk Cousins you'd be a little more interested than if I said Obama, Boehner, Leahy, and Kerry?"

Tamira was expecting to be led to some other part of the plane, maybe. Or, maybe she just wasn't aware of what she should be expecting. But, she wasn't expecting to find herself floating off the floor. That was a little more difficult to explain away as an illusion or trick. Sure, if it was just him, then there could be wires involved. And maybe there still could be since she had been asleep. But, she couldn't feel anything pulling her up, even though she was now not touching the floor. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" Her son had a grin that could match this young man's and she'd seen him use it to charm others into trying crazy things. "I think you can put me down, now. Your tranquilizers and floating are not a good match."

Troy's eyes went wide. "How the he- how is it that you can cover all of the major teams, even if the wrong city, Sam can cover pretty much every team in country, and I'm lucky if Sean remembers which sport is playing at any given time of the year?" He might slightly be in love with her just because she could name the major players.

Putting her down slowing, he still held her hand to make sure that she wouldn't fall. "Sorry, the side effects shouldn't last too long. We went on the conservative side, still I'd better be going. We need to get this plane home." He grinned at Deeks. "Shaggy and the Wonder Twins can entertain you until we get there."

The moment the plane hit the ground Troy was on the phone with Sean. "Hey, baby, listen up, I don't have much time. Yes, it's your mother, but now you really need to pay attention. I told her about Jenna and Sam. She does not know about Blaze and Dom. I thought you'd want to do that in person. Also, I didn't tell her about us, again I wasn't sure what you wanted to tell her or when. Now, I'm going to let you speak with her or she'll kill us, while we refuel. I'll see you soon."

He went back to hand her the phone and then focused on the plane. Soon they were on their way to the park.

A phone call was not enough. If anything, it was worse hearing her baby's voice without being able to hug him tight. But, that was quickly remedied once they finally got off the island and drove through the city, up into the mountains. Another time Tamira might have been interested in seeing the city Sam had been calling home for the last several years. Not just then, however. She was solely focused on getting to her son. Once they arrived at a trailer park and stopped, she practically jumped out of the car when she saw Sean coming to meet them.

"Sean!" Okay, she might have literally jumped out of the car and thrown her arms around him, laughing a little as he picked her up like she was nothing. From the feel of it, all the leftover baby fat had turned into solid muscle. "Let me get a look at you, baby." As he set her back on her feet, Tamira took a step back to look him over, hands still holding tightly to his as if he might disappear on her again. Her first impression had been right. He'd filled-out and toned up. There was a steadiness to his demeanor that hadn't been there two years ago, one that reminded her more of his father. But, that grin was still the same, still her boy, even if her baby seemed to have turned into a man while he was gone. And she couldn't remember ever seeing him in jeans and a T-shirt since he started high school. Stepping forward again, she framed his face with her hands. "Don't you ever worry me like that again."

"Wasn't a plan, Moms." Sean hugged his mother again, unable to believe he was really getting to do that. They talked a lot about going home. But, after Dad and G disappeared and Jenna was gone, Sean had stopped believing it was going to happen. "I've missed you so much." He was man enough to admit he was very much a mama's boy and he saw nothing wrong with that at all. Other men should be so lucky as to have a mother like his.

Letting her go, he took both her hands in his again and squeezed gently. "So, I know we've got a lot of catching up to do and you've probably got a million ques..." Sean's voice trailed off as he realized his mother was giving him that look. A look. The kind of look that made him feel three inches high as a child. "Moms...?"

It had taken a minute for Tamira to notice. She'd been so caught up in checking to make sure her baby was in one piece that little details escaped her notice. But, now the initial reunion was over and she could start cataloging each and every minor difference. That was how she noticed the ring on her son's hand when he squeezed hers again -- a plain band on the ring finger of his left hand. "Sean Matthew Ha-"

"How about we take this inside?" Sean knew she was going to let him have it for cutting her off, but that triple name usage was going to blow their cover out here. "You can finish whatever you're about to yell at me for in the house, okay?" He wasn't actually giving her a choice, though, leading her inside by the hand. "We share the house with Robert, who you've met and Mike. They have two kids between them who are sleeping now. So, we'll try not to wake them." It was a shameless ploy, but he knew it would head the yelling off at the pass, at least long enough to also explain about Renko's hearing.

Tamira tamped down on her outburst long enough to follow him into the house. The guy they called 'Shaggy', who had told her once they landed his real name was Marty Deeks, had told her a little about the fact they lived under covers and not to use Sean's true last name out loud when she was out where there was a chance of anyone hearing it. But, her surprise had made her forget. As soon as they got into the house, however, she took her son's hand and held it up. "Sean Matthew Hanna," she finished, in a quieter, though no less stern tone. "Does this mean you've gone and gotten married while you were here and I'm only just now hearing about this?"

"There hasn't been a whole lot of time to tell you," Sean pointed out.

"That's beside the point. You could have said something over the phone. Where is this person? I want to meet them. Now."

"Chill, Moms." Sean laughed and kissed her on the cheek. "If I'd said something over the phone, you'd have yelled at me for giving news like that over the phone. But, don't worry. I'm not hiding him from you. Actually, you already met him. Troy, the copilot on the plane when they picked you up."

"Mhm. I should have guessed." The pretty young man who called himself a friend and learned powers because of things her son said. Tamira hadn't seen if the young man in question had followed them into the house or preceded them, but she was going to assume he was somewhere within those walls. "Troy, get that pretty boy grin of yours out here front and center!"

Troy had followed them mostly because he needed to get his things. He was already planning to go crash with someone else, maybe Derek since they had the extra bed, and let Sean and his mother catch up. Of course the plan was destroyed before they even got inside, and now he wasn't sure if he should just find an excuse to leave, but yeah, totally not needed.

He stared at Sean for a moment. "Dude, seriously? I call you in advance and you can even think about the ring. I don't even want to think what Callen would say," he finished with a snort.

Troy grinned at Tamira, though. "Yes, Ma'am." As he moved closer, he reached in his pocket and put his ring back on. "And before you say anything, if you don't like this, it's totally Sean's fault." He turned to stare at Sean, smiling. "He's the one who proposed."

"G would say don't do anything that's going to fuck up your relationship with your mother," Sean replied with a smirk.

"Language." Tamira chided, narrowing her eyes at her son.

"Yes ma'am."

"And Callen is a very smart man." The use of the 'G', just like Detective Deeks had done, did not escape her, either. Good. It was about time their kids had gotten to know Sam's partner. "You are also not getting away with blaming anything on my son," she chided with little heat, although it surprised her that Sean had been the one to propose. That spoke a lot for this young man...or Stockholm Syndrome. "You could have said no," she added with a smirk.

"Moms!"

"Hush, baby. I'm interrogating my new son-in-law." Smiling she returned her attention to Troy. "So. You said 'yes'. That at least tells me you have the good taste to know you can't get any better than my boy. Now, tell me the three most important things I need to know about you, Troy...last name? Other than sports. I got that one clear as a whistle on the plane. And make them good because you're going to convince me you're good for my baby boy."

Sean groaned, but she ignored him and just smiled at the man he'd chosen to marry. She hadn't had the chance to do this when they'd gotten engaged, the way her own mama had done to Sam when they announced Tamira was pregnant with Jenna. If she was going to travel across dimensions, find her kids only to find she'd lost one, and learn about super powers and her son's wedding, she was going to take a little maternal privilege in giving them a hard time.

"No, Callen is insane," Troy said, laughing, "but he had to be to be in charge of this group." He didn't mention that Callen wouldn't know what a healthy relationship was if it bit him in the ass, regardless of family connection. She'd figure it out when they found them.

Troy looked at Sean, and sighed. "I almost said no." He laced his fingers with Sean, making sure that it was his left, and squeezed gently. "Bolton, played at Cal until I showed up here. I come from a very traditional family. You have a mother, a father, they are married no one gets divorced, no one has jobs that could get you killed. I had very clear ideas of what was a marriage. We had to... work at creating something that worked for us," he explained.

Of course, mother or not, Troy found it almost impossible to be serious for too long and grinned again. "Three things? Did you look at me? Sean didn't need a second reason after that. Although being willing to prank Sam might have impressed him a little. And third?" He leaned closer and kissed Sean. "He's the most important person in the world." Troy wasn't even bothering looking at her, the words so soft that they were mostly for Sean. "Of course, if my parents ever come here and you spring this on them, I might have to hurt you." This time, he did look at Tamira. "I never dated men before Sean. I wouldn't lie to my parents about it, which meant dating women," he finished with a shrug.

Tamira shrugged. She knew a little about Callen, but she didn't know yet what they knew about Callen, about Sam, about all the things they'd never shared with the kids because Sam thought it would be safer and Tamira respected his wishes when it came to his job and his life.

What she did know what that she knew something real when she saw it. The way they touched, the kiss, the barely audible declaration, all told her this wasn't just one of her son's romantic whims. And a dose of traditional might jusst do Sean some good.

"I'm not springing anything on your parents." Sean laughed, shaking his head. "Chances are they take one look at the bisexual black man and decide I've corrupted their baby."

"Cocky young white boy half my age, sure, I looked," Tamira teased. "And if you were playing pranks on his father, I think Callen's not the only insane one around here." She could just imagine how well that had gone over.

"Actually, unbeknownst to Troy, Dad and I were playing the prank on him."

"You and your father. Were playing pranks. Together." Apparently a lot of things had changed in two years. Shaking her head, she turned back to give Troy a stern look. "And you should remember that if you hurt my baby, it won't be the SEAL you have to worry about killing you. Understood? Now, enough standing around on ceremony. Why don't we sit down and one or the both of you can tell me the full story about what's going on with your father and what- what happened to Jenna." As soon as she had a moment to wrap her brain around that, Tamira was likely to lose it. But, she was still half in shock with everything that had happened that day. Hopefully there weren't many more surprises like that one coming.

"Sure, Moms. Let's sit and I'll tell you everything."

"It was a prank in a prank in a prank. It was kind of awesome," Troy said, grinning, and then nodded. "Understood, but I'll give you the same answer I gave Jenna. It's not the threats that stop me from hurting Sean. I love him." No matter what they thought, threatening people was not really the normal way to go.

"I got my stuff ready. I'm just going to go and you two can talk in peace. Take the bedroom just in case Robert decides to shoot you for making too much noise." He kissed Sean softly, before smiling at his mother. "Good night."
