Re: John and Dom
John shrugged. "Maybe they just have different ways of making it better? Hugs and smiles are nice. But, some things can't be fixed that way." Some things couldn't be fixed. But, that was a depressing thought for another life. Or, at least another day. "I could tell you if the school won the football game Friday night, provided I heard someone talking about it Monday morning," he said with a chuckle. "I wish mine had been irrelevant. I'm not either," he explained. "But, I think some people think I should be more bothered by that than I am."
The smile and comment on the books caught John off-guard and he blinked for a moment before shrugging again and letting the book fall open in his lap, propped up against one knee as he crossed one ankle over the other knee. "Yeah, she let me have them when I got here and started talking theories that might be applicable as soon as they told me I was in another dimension. I've worked through most of the general overviews, if you want those. There are some differences from my dimension. I'm trying to fill-in the gaps of the basics before moving into more esoteric ideas." Smiling a little, he added, "The Director suggested a while back I might want to invite some fellow geeks over to play video games at some point. You could pick them up then."
Not that John was any good at them. But, that hadn't been what Vance meant.
"It's strange, isn't it? Seeing people you know, but don't?" The question came out more nosy than John might have liked. But, he couldn't explain exactly how he knew that very feeling himself. So, nosy teenager it was.
