Entry tags:*complete, 2013 04, character: claudia donovan, character: dominic vail

RP: Claudia/Dom
Who: Claudia/Dom
When: 4-6-13
Where: Dom's house
Summary: Claudia speaks to Dom about gaming.

It was going on two months now since Eric and Jenna had died. Claudia missed Eric terribly, but she'd reached the point where she was all cried out and her memories kept her warm instead of aching. She knew from experience that it took much longer to reach that point with someone you loved more than a friend, but that didn't stop her from visiting Dom's house on Saturday morning to invite him back into gaming.

"Hello," she greeted Dom after being let into the house. She'd been trying to always speak like she'd gone to private, ivy league schools, since she was in cover everywhere but at the safe house. "To quell your questioning, confused expression, I am here to invite you to game with Nick, Sheldon and myself tomorrow evening at Nick's house. We are hooking up Eric's x-box to the laptop to play."

Claudia had been playing with Nick on the old arcade game in the game room at the trailer park, and she thought Nick and Sheldon gamed on their laptops on weekends. She wasn't sure if Dom had returned at all - Sheldon hadn't mentioned it - and she wanted to ask him back into their little group of adventurers. It was important, she'd learned over her time here, to keep together the knots of friends she'd made. There might not be overlap, but friends made everything more bearable.

If things hadn't been enough after Jenna's death, now he was adjusting to having a 'wife'. Nell tried, she really did, and she might not have been an agent, but she knew how to play the game. The problem was that Blaze didn't. He didn't like her, or maybe and more likely, she wasn't familiar. She wasn't family.

At the safe house, it was easy enough, because they could be who they were, but at home, it was slightly different. Still Nell was smart enough to know that it was easier to give Blaze space, plenty of it. That left him with family and being Saturday morning, he expected Savannah to stop by, but instead it was Claudia.

He listened to her almost asking what the hell was wrong, but then he remembered her cover (and his surprise really showed how much attention he was paying to people instead of research). "Game?" It sounded absurd. He hadn't played since... since Jenna. He had no time, no inclination, no will. "I don't know, Claudia. I'm not exactly the best company at the moment, and there's Blaze."

"Blaze is invited, as well. I think it's about time he learned how to hold a controller. He can always bow out at bedtime." Claudia kept it light at first, but she knew Dom might need this. She didn't touch him, nor was her tone compassionate or sympathic, but matter-of-fact. "I understand what you're really saying. I've been where you are now, more than once, and I'm not referring to Eric. I didn't want people trying to make things better, because there is no 'better', there's only adjusting and trying to move on. The one thing that was the truth was that doing something, anything, that you enjoyed previously got your mind away from the bleakness if only for a short while."

Dom can't help but smile at that. "Sheldon will have a conniption if he sees Blaze touching.. anything." He like Sheldon and he finds him amusing at time, but if he goes off on his son, then they will have a problem.

"I am doing something." He was working day and night. In fact, he was working so much that he had several members of his family tell him to knock it off and spend time with Blaze before they shot him. He believed some of them.

"Do you understand? I lost my wife, Claudia. The woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I gave up going back home for her, long before we knew that I couldn't go back, because her and our family meant so much to me. I don't think you understand, but all right. I need to stop if I want to be lucid in my work. I'll be there. What time?"

"Possibly, but I'm positive Blaze could beat Sheldon in a fight," she said, before sobering again.

"I lost my parents, my brother, and the person who was just as close to me as a brother, so yes, I understand what it is to lose someone you love. I would - and have - done anything and everything I could to get them back. I've obsessed until I nearly took someone's life and almost lost my own twice," she said. "I also know that hearing this doesn't usually matter when you're suffering. It didn't to me. What mattered many, many months down the road was that someone had understood and didn't stop me from what I needed to do at the time.

"We're not the best of friends, but we are gamers and that comes with its own sense of community. If this can give you a moment of reprieve, or renew your energy to keep working, or anything, I believe you should take it, which is somewhat moot since you've agreed already. We're starting around six, or whenever you get done with your family dinners."

Dom snorted. "Considering that Savannah is training them, I'm pretty sure he could."

She was trying, and he wasn't the type of person to be mean or vindictive. He wasn't one who wanted to see other hurt, just because he was. He sighed. "Claudia, I've lost my parents, my sister, my nephew and niece, and I can tell you that it's not even close to what this is like. I... know you're trying, and I know you think you know, but you don't and I hope, for your sake, that you will never have to know it."

He did smile a little at the speech that sounded more like Claudia, even if there were no pop references or strange and random prepositions or nouns. "Yes, I've agreed, and we'll be done by then. There's no basketball tomorrow. Final fours are tonight. Final on Monday.

Claudia never hoped so either, from the way it sounded. She didn't respond to that, though, and gave him a smile instead. "Great. I'll see you and Blaze then."
