"Yes, but age is a factor. People look at him and see a kid, and you know something? He is a kid. A very smart, very intense, very focused, very driven kid. He shouldn't have that responsibility yet. He needs the life experience that will make him a great leader," he answered.
Derek shook his head. "The assumptions aren't wrong, Nell. They are too much part of who we are, and a discussion isn't going to change that. The human race is more important than anything else, Nell. I've sacrificed too much to let emotions or family stop me now. Maybe one day, people will create another Skynet. I don't know, but it'll be a long time, because we have to destroy every computer and machine there is. We'll have to worry about cleaning up the land and the sea. Hell, we have to worry about being able to breathe without dying, having food that's real food. By the time people get around to computers, I'll be long dead."
He laughed. "Oh no, that kid is his mother's child. They fight and argue, but he's Sarah's son. It's not a bad thing, but she'd taught him to keep secrets; it's to ingrained in him. I'm an amateur compared to them, because I never had a problem killing anyone with the wrong information. They'd rather keep the secrets. This time, I'm going to take a page from their book since I don't want to kill them." He shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe I'll get lucky and Sarah has exterminated them, and then it's not an issue, because I know where she stands on this issue."
