Casey laughed. "I suppose that's right," he said. "I can't say I ever had enough money to do that." He grinned. "So what got you started?" He wasn't sure he believed a word of it, but it was fun to listen to and better than boredom so why not?
He smiled at comment. "It is tough, and difficult, but also amazing," he said. "You get to touch people's lives on a day to day basis, whether it's from a fire or from a collapsing building or from a crashed car, you help people." He smiled. "I even delivered a baby once, it was the most amazing thing." In all his years on the force, that was probably his favorite moment.
"Are you close to them?" he asked, though were was probably a better way to put it. That would sound strange though, so he kept it to present tense.
