Re: Doug/Maura
"I don't know if I should be happy that you agree with me in this case," he said, laughing. "This is when you're supposed to tell me that I'm a great catch and we have a wonderful family. Oh wait, we're back to the urticaria, aren't we. It's all right. You don't have to lie. The press has said it all."
Doug frowned. "Are you okay? I know this isn't exactly the idyllic marriage, but we're still friends. If you want to talk-" He shrugged. "And I can lie, so anything you tell me can stay a secret if that's what you want." He leaned closer. "I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of, but this isn't one of them. You are a brilliant, beautiful, funny woman. I'm getting the chance to go on a vacation, on a warm island. We got fancy clothes, a party, good food and plenty of alcohol. I get to spend my time with a woman who's a great conversationalist. I don't see a downside to all of this. I am sorry this isn't the wedding you want. Or the groom."
