Re: Doug/Maura
"I really do," she agreed with a laugh, after taking a moment to think about it. Garrett had been the only one she'd gotten that close to marrying, but of the men she'd been most attracted to it hadn't been the doctors and lawyers she'd dated. It had been Jane's brother, the ex con. It had been the doctor moving drugs illegally. It had been the artist who wanted to kill her. Maybe it really was true that women went for men like their fathers...she just had never known it until she knew her birth father.
Would her mother -- either of them -- have wanted to plan a wedding? Maura didn't know. She and her mother were just starting to really become close. And Hope...well, Hope hadn't wanted anything to do with her. Blinking those thoughts away, she turned her fingers in Doug's and squeezed back with a smile. "It's not how I pictured getting married. But, I won't endanger someone because I've blown our cover over a lie I can't tell. You know I can't even tell white lies to comfort? Jane always knew when I was just saying something to make her feel better because the urticaria would appear. I just appreciate that you would do this. It can't be what you wanted, either."
