Re: Doug/Maura
"The last man I thought about marrying murdered his brother fifteen years after we broke up." Maura smiled as she took the champagne from him. "I'd say crazy is an improvement," she teased gently before taking a sip.
Married.
Maura could almost hear Jane and Angela now. Outrage and optimism. This wasn't exactly how she'd ever thought she'd get married. She'd thought she'd be in love with the man she was marrying, for one thing. But, at least she genuinely liked Doug as a friend in the strange world they'd ended up in where medical examiners became obstetricians and politicans became soldiers.
"Your mother's been wonderful about all of this and I know she must be less than pleased." She wanted to apologize -- again -- for putting him in this position. But, she'd already done so any time something about the wedding came up.
