"I talked to him like you suggested. He's interested in me romantically. I told him that it wasn't off the table, but I'm not ready for that sort of thing. So because we have to play a couple in public and apparently I'm going to do it wrong no matter what, he decided we shouldn't be together in public so we don't give it away that we're not one." Just talking about it gave Oliver a headache, but now that he was talking, it was pouring out in a irritated rush.
"I don't know what the hell is going on. It's like I was supposed to jump at the opportunity to be in a relationship with him and because I didn't, things have gone to pot. What was I supposed to do? Lie? Someone you've been friends with forever and never thought of in that way tells you out of the blue that he's interested in romance and I'm supposed to magically want the same thing immediately? It's not like I didn't tell him it wasn't impossible, but I can't guarantee it happening because I don't know that it will.
"So now it seems like he's doing everything he can to put distance between us, even though he said it wouldn't affect our friendship."
